Violin is a super fun hobby for your sims to have as a way to improve their mood.
You can even have your sims earn money through licensing songs and playing for tips!
Violin is great if your sims want to enter the musician branch of the entertainer career too!
How to Gain The Sims 4 Violin Skill
There are two ways you can gain the violin skill in the game. The first way is by purchasing and reading skill books that you can get by clicking on any bookcase. There are three violin books to choose from:
- Violin Vol 1: Basic Violinin’
- Violin Vol 2: Classic Techniques
- Violin Vol 3: Horsehair High Jinks
You’ll want to start with the first book and read it until you gain a few levels of the skill. Your sim may get a moodlet that says they’re bored because they know the info and that’s how you know when to move to the next book.
The other way to gain this skill is, of course, playing the violin! You can do any interaction from writing songs to practicing and all those will help you gain the skill.
When your sim reaches level two of the skill they can also gain it on the computer by choosing to research violin!
Best Mood to Practice Violin
Moods are so important for gaining skills more quickly and there’s an ideal mood for each. The best mood to be in to practice the violin skill is inspired.
There are so many ways to get inspired but the easiest ways include things like taking a thoughtful shower or browsing art on the computer.
Best Traits for Musical Sims
There are certain traits that can impact your sims skill gains and make your experience with violin more enjoyable. The traits you might want to consider for a musical sim include:
- Creative: A creative sim is great because they are more likely to get an inspired moodlet that can help them gain their skill more quickly.
- Music Lover: Sims who are music lovers will get happy moodlets when they are playing a violin.
You should also think about the types of lot traits you want to have for your sim’s household and these can be helpful for gaining the violin skill:
- Great Acoustics: This lot trait helps you gain the skills in every musical instrument.
- Study Spot: This comes with Discover University and gives a skill boost to all skills.
- Sunny Aspect: This comes with City Living and gives a random moodlet (energized, happy, or inspired) at 6 o’clock everyday and you can use the inspired moodlet to your advantage!
How to Cheat The Sims 4 Violin Skill
With every skill comes a new skill cheat that you can use. The violin skill cheat is stats.set_skill_level Major_violin 10 to max out the skill.
If you want a different level of the skill you need to change the 10 to another number for example, stats.set_skill_level Major_Violin 2 would give you level 2 of this skill.

| Level 8 | Your sim can now write, scrap, and name songs. They can also play swing songs. |
| Level 9 | Your sim can now perform advanced classical songs and license songs they have written at the mailbox. |
| Level 10 | Your sim can now play avant-garde songs. |
Changing Sim’s Emotions With Violin
There are two fun ways you can make sims feel things by playing the violin, the first way is to bring a sim to tears. This is unlocked at level 7 and will have that sim cry throughout the performance.
When you do this the other sim will get a +2 Sadness buff called gloomy melody which is hilarious. I just am evil and would use this on sims who are locked in my basement or something just for fun.
The other thing you can do is serenade another sim who you have a romantic relationship with. This will give the other sim a +2 Flirty Sweet Serenade moodlet that lasts 8 hours.
Making Tips With The Sims 4 Violin Skill
I love finding new ways to make money in the game and earning tips is another one. It isn’t the best way to earn an income because it’s a big amount of time for not a lot of money.
To earn tips you’ll want to put the violin in your sim’s inventory and then travel to a public lot like a park. You’ll want to click any playing option other than practice and sims will come watch, and eventually give you money. A sim with a maxed skill can earn 20 simoleons per tip!
Writing and Licensing Songs
As you gain the skill you’ll unlock new abilities and writing songs is a great one. You’ll click on the violin, choose write song and pick the type of song to write. You’ll be able to name it and your sim can play it at any time from their violin.
The best part is that you can license these songs for money! When your sim finishes their song you can click on the mailbox and choose license and pick the song. You’ll get some money and then get royalties each day at 10AM.
Violin Mentorship
When your sim reaches level 10 in this skill they are going to be able to mentor other sims in violin. To do this, get another sim to play the violin and when they’re doing this you can click on them and mentor them in this skill so they can gain it more quickly.
You can actually mentor children in this skill as well, which is great because it’ll help them get a boost on skill gains early in their life.
If you have The Sims 4: Business & Hobbies installed you can also mentor for money by offering sims paid mentoring. A sim will earn 430 simoleons per hour when they have a maxed out skill!
Adding More With Other Packs
When you start adding DLC to your game you’ll notice that skills get more fun! There are certain packs that can add goodies to the violin skill!
Discover University
When you add The Sims 4: Discover University to your game you add a bunch of new ways your sims are able to gain skills without just doing the task.
The only way you can gain the violin skill that’s exclusive to University is taking skill classes.
Your sim is able to go to either of these buildings on campus to sit in on a skill class for ยง250 and a few hours of your sim’s time!
Get Famous
When you have The Sims 4: Get Famous in your game your sims are able to gain fame by playing violin in public areas by choosing any of the interactions that have +Fame next to them! This includes:
- Play Concerto
- Serenade
- Bow for Inspiration
- Bring to Tears
Your sims are also able to gain more fame when they license songs too!
High School Years
Adding The Sims 4: High School Years is a fun one because your sims are able to gain the entrepreneur skill any time they are playing in public and another sim gives them a tip!
Just make sure your sim isn’t practicing, because sims don’t tip when you practice. Use interactions like play concerto instead!
