The Sims 4 Veterinarian Skill Guide
If you want your sims to take care of pets for a living they’ll need the sims 4 veterinarian skill!
This skill comes with The Sims 4: Cats and Dogs and adding all these pets in the game means someone needs to take care of them!
The veterinarian skill is the one your sims need if they want to do an at-home neuter or make treats to keep their pets alive forever.
What is The Veterinarian Skill Good For?
There are a lot of benefits of a high Veterinarian skill, the first being that with enough money your sims will be able to start their very own Vet Clinic!
This is a business your sims can run where they’ll be able to help pets, hire employees and earn a decent income through this business as they work up the ranks.
The other benefit of this skill is that you can craft delicious treats that can bring pets back from death or keep them young forever so they never die, what A DREAM!
How to Gain The Sims 4 Veterinarian Skill
The easiest way to start gaining the veterinarian skill is to go ahead and purchase a medicine crafting table. There are two options in the build catalog with the only true difference being that one looks dirtier than the other.

Once you have this machine you’ll want to either craft a treat or do lab work. I find doing lab work to be the better option to gain the skill because sims make one treat at a time and you’ll need to keep clicking to get them to make more.

Doing lab work is the best way to get them to work on the skill for a long time without stopping. You’ll also gain the skill by making any of the treats or helpful remedies for the examination tables too.

If you want to gain the skill without ever owning a Vet Clinic, that’s where we stop. However, if you start a vet clinic you gain the skill by working there and doing exams and surgery.

Once you own a vet clinic you can start taking patients and your sims will gain the skill whenever they do any exams on sick pets that come in.

Your sim will also get the skill when doing scans or surgery on the surgery machine!
Ideal Mood for The Veterinarian Skill
The emotions system actually has a big impact on your sim’s skill gains and there is a best emotion for every skill in the game. The best emotion for gaining the Veterinarian skill is focused.
An easy way to get focused is to ponder moves on a chess table!
Best Traits to Learn The Vet Skill
The traits your sims have are actually important and have an impact on their skill gains. You want to choose things that will make it easier to gain the skill.
- Dog Lover: Since you’ll spend lots of time treating animals if you open a Vet Clinic, dog lover is smart because the sim will get positive moodlets.
- Cat Lover: For the same reason as dog lover, but for cats!
- Genius: Since focused is the best emotion, genius is good because genius sims can get random focused moodlets.
How to Cheat The Sims 4 Veterinarian Skill
Every skill in The Sims 4 has the ability to be cheated and the vet skill fits that too! This one is a major skill with ten levels so you need to know stats.set_skill_level major_vet 10 to max the skill.
To get any other level of this skill you’ll just choose a different number from 1-9 at the end. I’m just grateful they made the skill cheat vet instead of veterinarian because I can never spell that word.

Crafting Vet Treats
As you gain the skill you’ll start getting new treats that you can craft on the animal medicine table. There are so many options to choose from including treats, exam table serums and surgery items.

In the treats category you’ll find lots of options that all have different effects on your pets! Let’s discuss them further:
- Age-Down Treat: Treat that causes your cat or dog to age down.
- Age-Up Treat: Treat that causes your cat or dog to age up
- Wellness Treat: Treat that boosts your cat or dog’s wellness.
- The Stinkinator: We really wouldn’t recommend feeding this to any cat or dog. They’ll stink, you’ll stinky, the whole world will stink.
- Swampwater Taffy: Made with unfiltered swamp water, this chewy treat is sure to delight any cat or dog. And then have some… other effects.
- Scorching Cinnamon Chew: This treat doesn’t feel hot to the touch, but if your cat or dog eats it they’re in for a spicy surprise.
- Cooler Than Liquid Nitrogen Bar: As cool as this treat is, your cat or dog might need a really, really warm blanket after eating it.
- Poop Randomizer: This treat does exactly what you think it does. Feed it to a cat or dog and… watch what comes out the other end.
- Ambrosia Treat: Treat that resurrects your cat or dog.
You can also create the industrial strength relaxation serum which is great for being a vet. This serum can be administered on the exam table and clears all pet stress!

There are also two things you can create for the surgery station. The first is the belly rub simulation gel which is great because it reduces stress and boosts diagnosis.

The other is the catnip-based calming agent which will do the same for cats, boosting diagnosis and calming the pets.
Skill Unlocks
As you gain the skill you’ll start to unlock a few cute things to add to your sim’s lot or to your Vet Clinic. The first is a set of five decals you can add to the wall.

The cutest is the two mailboxes that have tails, one is a cat and one is a dog! The final unlock is a special door for your vet clinic that’s just super cute.
