The Sims 4 Robotics Skill Guide
If you’ve ever wanted a robot for your sims they need to earn the sims 4 robotics skill!
Robotics is one of two skills that came with The Sims 4: Discover University and lets your sims craft some really cool stuff.
Who wouldn’t want a robot best friend who can clean your dishes and take care of your kids?
What is Robotics Good For?
The robotics skill is a fun one that lets your sims craft robots that can do the gardening, help your sim throw a perfect party and even take care of children. This is awesome!
Plus, your sims are going to need the sims 4 robotics skill if they want to join the engineer career in the game.
How to Gain The Sims 4 Robotics Skill
The first way you can earn the robotics skill is by getting your sims to read skill books. These can be purchased from any bookcase and you’ll need all three to max the skill:
- Robotics Vol 1: Getting to Know Circuits
- Robotics Vol 2: Building a Better Bot
- Robotics Vol 3: Invevitable Singulairty

To use skill books you’ll want to start with volume one from 1-4, then at level four you’ll move to volume two, then move onto volume 3 at level 7.
The next way you can gain the skill is by purchasing the Dr. F’s Official Robotics Workstation for your sims home, or you can use the ones that are available on campus at Larry’s Lagoon!

Once you have this machine you’ll need to start by obtaining some robotics pieces which you can do by buying them from a computer or you can click tinker at robotics station and you’ll get some that way.

As you gain the skill your sims are going to be unlocking new items that they can craft from RC Quadcopters to actual robots, there is a lot to explore with this table.
The next way your sim can gain the skill is with the research and debate skill. With this skill you’re able to research different topics and Robotics opens at level 4 of the skill, you’ll look for A.I. in Robotics and choose that option.

The fun thing about learning about robotics this way is that your sim will also gain the research and debate skill at the same time.
The next way you can gain this skill is by sitting in on a skill class, and you do not need to be a student to do this. It will cost your sim 250 simoleons and a few hours of their time, and they’ll leave with more of the skill than they arrived with.

Ideal Mood for Practicing Robotics
Did you know that there’s an ideal mood for every skill in the game? These help your sims gain the skills more quickly which is awesome. For robotics, you need to have your sims feeling focused. An easy way to get focused is to ponder moves on a chess board!
Traits That Help With Robotics
When you create the sim who you want to play around with robotics, you should think about what traits they have. Their traits can have a big impact on how quickly they gain the skill. Here’s a couple that are helpful:
- Genius: Sims who have the genius trait get random focused moodlets which can help gain robotics faster
- Practice Makes Perfect: The practice makes perfect skill is great because sims start earning skills slow, but eventually they gain them quick and can get random focused moodlets that last hours!
- Cheerful: A cheerful sim is pretty much always ideal because they get happy moodlets that can stack with focused to make it stronger
You should also think about the traits you give your sim’s household. These can have a huge impact too:
- Study Spot: This lot trait is awesome because it helps your sims gain all skills faster
- Science Lair: This trait impacts your sim’s ability to gain mental skills which this is considered!
How to Cheat The Robotics Skill
Let’s cheat together! If you want your sims to gain the skill and create stuff without having to grind first, you can always cheat the skill. You’ll need to know stats.set_skill_level major_robotics 10 to max the skill.
If you want your sim to have a different level of the robotics skill, just change the 10 to another number.
Levels of the Sims 4 Robotics Skill
There are ten total levels of the robotics skill for your sim to gain. As they gain the skill they are going to get the ability to create new items like Servo robots!
| Skill Level | Level Unlocks |
|---|---|
| Level 1 | Your sim’s newfound robotics skill will allow them to create robotic marvels that will leave other sims in awe of her inventive genius! Your sim can purchase raw robotics salvage for her creations from the computer or scavenge for parts from electronic waste. |
| Level 2 | Your sim can now craft the computer chip, mechanism, and RC Quadcopter on the Robotics Workstation. |
| Level 3 | Your sim can now craft a new Utili-bot at the robotics work station. The cleaner-bot is a nifty addition to any home. |
| Level 4 | Your sim can now craft a new Utili-bot at the robotics work station. The Party-bot helps get any party started. |
| Level 5 | Your sim can now craft a new Utility-bot at the robotics work station. The gardener-bot helps maintain even the most unruly of gardens. They can also mentor others in robotics. |
| Level 6 | Your sim can now craft a new Utility-bot at the robotics work station. The fixer-bot helps repair items around the house. |
| Level 7 | Your sim can now craft the Robo-Arm at the robotics work station. |
| Level 8 | Your sim can now craft a Servo at the robotics work station. |
| Level 9 | Your sim can now enhance a servo with the sim defense matrix behaviour module. |
| Level 10 | Your sim can now enhance a servo with the Robo Nanny Behaviour module. |
Earning Money With The Sims 4 Robotics Skill
Robotics is not a skill you get into for making money like a skill like the painting skill. This one requires too many things and too much money to craft the items for it to make it truly worth it to sell these items.
When you finish a Servo robot you can sell a deactivated Servo for §6,000 which is a lot of money, but considering how much time and resources go in, there are better ways to make money.
Selling a fixer-bot got my sim §2,238 which was a nice chunk of change too!
Creating Cool Stuff With This Skill
There are a bunch of fun things you can create with this skill from Toys to full robots!
Toys
There are two types of toys your sims can craft with this skill and the first is a chatter bot. There’s a bunch of different colours for this and your sim will need 4 Robot Salvage parts to create them.

These have a button that says press to talk and will increase your sim’s fun need when pressed.
The other toy you can great is an RC Quadcopter which is way more interesting than the Chatter Bot.

Once you sim crafts one of these they are going to be able to play with it, they’ll have a controller and the quadcopter will fly around your sim’s lot all over the place.
Robo-Arm
Your sims are able to craft a robot arm, and unfortunately, this has no real purpose. I found that it’s just decorative and this frustrates me because it should give some kind of interesting ability to sims who wear it.

Utili-Bots
There are four uliti-bots your sims are able to craft and each has their own abilities that can improve the quality of your sim’s life which I love. I’m all for making robots do work for me!
Cleaner-Bot
Keeping my sim’s house clean is the worst, but having a cleaner-bot can make this easier. This bot will go around the house and clean up dirty dishes, puddles, paint messes from kids and more.

If you sell one of these bots you can expect to see around §1,500!
Fixer-Bot
This bot can be so useful if you haven’t had your sim go around and make everything unbreakable with the handiness skill. When you activate this bot you’ll see it go around the house to any broken objects and fix them immediately.

If you choose to sell a fixer bot you’ll get paid immediately. My sim got §2,238 when selling this item!
Gardener-Bot
If you have a sim who wants to have tons of flowers growing for the flower arranging skill or you just want to grow your own food, a gardener-bot can be so valuable. These are great because you can activate them each morning and they will weed and water all of the plants in your sim’s yard.

If you choose to sell a gardener-bot your sim can get a good amount of money. My sim got §1,653.
Party-Bot
The Party bot is a funny one and makes for a perfect party companion for birthday parties and weddings. This bot will do everything you need for a party from playing music to letting your sims order drinks and food from this machine.

Selling a party-bot is a good way to make some quick money. My sim got 1,600 for selling one!
Servos
The absolute best part of this skill is adding servos to your sim’s household. These are robots that you can use to take care of your sim’s household, and even eventually use them as a Nanny.
Taking Care of Your Servo’s Needs
There are four needs that your servo has that you need to take care of, let’s go over them:
- Fun: The fun need works just like a regular sim, Servos can watch TV, play games on a computer, etc.
- Social: Your Servo needs to talk to others just like sims, so chat away! You can also have them chat with a computer to fill this need or chat with Utili-Bots!
- Durability: Durability is important, you want to make sure you have a sim give a servo a tune up by clicking on them and choosing servo > tune up
- Charge: To charge a servo, switch control to them and click on them and choose servo > recharge and your servo will fall asleep wherever they are.
If you ignore your Servo’s Durability need you’ll have some bad consequences. You need to care for them and tune them up! When you ignore this your servo will get notifications telling you how long until the next stage of their bad durability.

Eventually your Servo will break down, if you don’t fix them yourself or hire someone to fix them they will break down and spend their life as a ghost!

Enhancing Your Servo Bot

As your Servo spends more time around your sim’s house they are going to unlock the ability to get enhancements. The first round of enhancements gave my Servo three abilities:
- They charge 10% faster
- They can Download Enhancement Data to get more enhancements, you’ll click on the Servo chose enhancement > download enhancement data
- They can earn skills to get more enhancements
You can either choose to have a Servo self-enhance or get a sim with a high sims 4 robotics skill to do it for them.
The second round of enhancements came to my Servos by choosing to download enhancement data and gave my Servo more abilities:
- Their durability slows by 10% less
- Unlocked new behaviour modules you can add to your Servo
The third round of enhancements added even more goodies to my Servo including:
- Gains Skills 10% Faster
- Unlocked the Ability to self-repair
- Unlocks More Behaviour Modules
The fourth round gave my Servo the ability to:
- Improve Battery life by 10%
- Unlocks More Behaviour Modules
- Servo Can Toggle Behaviour Modules On/Off
The fifth round gave my servo this ability:
- Increases the charge speed by 25%
Servo Behaviour Modules
There are a whole bunch of incredible behaviour modules you can add to a Servo to make them even more useful than before!
- Eco-Friendly Tech: Name a better duo than cold steel and mother nature! With this behaviour module, mechanical precision surpasses any green thumb.
- Fix-O-Matic: Never hire a handyman again! When things start leaking, corroding, and corrupting, forget about it! Any servo with this behavior module will keep clocks ticking.
- Party Machine: This behaviour module turns any Servo into the ultimate party machine! Turn up the music, grab a drink, and party the night away with this upgrade.
- Sim Defense Matrix: With this behaviour module, any servo will be fully equipped to defend its softer, squishier family members! Guaranteed to give a Servo prime updates to do away with photo snappers, party crashers and garlic bashers!
- Parameterize and Sanitize: Say goodbye to garbage, spills, and smelly toilets. This behaviour module upgrades any Servo into a full on Robo-Butler!
- RoboNanny: This behaviour module allows my sim family to automate all of their childcare needs the way nature intended. It’s almost like children practically raise themselves around Servos with this upgrade
Avoiding Death With The Sims 4 Robotics Skill
For some reason, EA decided that University was the place to die. There’s a death with the Research & Debate Skill that came with this pack too!
If you want to kill a sim with the robotics skill, get a sim with a low level of the skill to work on robotics. Eventually they may get a dazed moodlet from being electrocuted and if they continue to practice robotics they have a chance of death!
How to Get Parts to Craft With Robotics
There are a whole bunch of parts you’ll need to have access to in order to craft anything with the robotics station. Most of them are purchasable from a computer under order > purchase upgrade parts and you’ll find all the basic upgrade parts as well as the robot salvage parts.

Unfortunately, you can’t just purchase the Computer Chip and Mechanism. These have to be crafted (I couldn’t even find them in the show hidden objects menu) and it can take a long time. To craft these two you’ll click on craft materials and you’ll see both of these options appear.
You do have the option to cheat to get these goodies! To do this just enable cheats with testingcheats true and then hold down space and click on the robotics table and choose spawn crafting supplies. This will give your sim up to 50 of these items without the effort!
