The Sims 4 Herbalism Skill Guide
The sims 4 herbalism is a skill that came to the game with The Sims 4: Outdoor Retreat.
This skill has your sims spending tons of time in Granite Falls looking for plants and insects to turn into herbal remedies.
What is the Herbalism Skill Good For?
Herbalism is a weird skill to gain because all you can really do with it is make herbal remedies that you can use to do things like remove anger moodlets or increase the ability to have twins.
How to Gain The Sims 4 Herbalism Skill
To start gaining the herbalism skill you can go to Granite Falls and start harvesting unidentified plants around the world.

You won’t gain the skill just from this, you’ll need to go into your sim’s inventory and choose to attempt to identify to gain the first level of this skill.

Once you have the first level of the skill you have the option to go ahead and start making herbal remedies. You can do this in Granite Falls on a grill outdoors or in a kitchen on a stove if you’re fancy and didn’t just rent a camp site.

You can also learn this skill by talking to the hermit about it, but this isn’t reliable or quick.
The final way to gain this skill is through skill books. You might honestly want to buy these books from the bookcase and start reading them before you head to Granite Falls.

I’d want the skill before heading there because the higher the skill you have, the better the chance of actually being able to identify different plants.
With skill books you’ll start with the first volume and read that until you reach level 4, then move onto volume 2 until level 7, and then read volume 3.
Pro Tip: If you have The Sims 4: City Living installed you can add the peace and quiet lot trait to your sim’s lot to read books and gain those skills more quickly.
How to Cheat The Sims 4 Herbalism Skill
There are cheats for every skill in The Sims 4 and you are welcome to use these whenever you want! If you want to gain the skill without the effort you’ll need to know stats.set_skill_level major_herbalism 10 to max the skill.
If you want a different level of the skill you’ll want to change the 10 to another level of the skill instead!
Ideal Mood for Herbalism
Emotions were a huge selling point for The Sims 4 and they can have a big impact on your sims, especially in earlier packs like Outdoor Retreat. If you have a sim that wants to gain the herbalism skill you’ll want them to be feeling focused when brewing their herbal remedies!
Best Traits for Herbalism
The traits you give your sims can have a big impact on how they gain skills and the mood they’re in when gaining them. There are two traits I’d give my sims if I want them to get the herbalism skill:
- Loves The Outdoors: Herbalism will have your sims spending so much outside looking for insects, plants and more so you’ll want to make sure that they actually enjoy spending time outdoors!
- Genius: Since the best mood for this skill is focused you’ll want to be a genius because these sims will get random focused moodlets more often.
