The Sims 4 Guitar Skill Guide
There are skills like the sims 4 guitar skill that i wish I knew IRL but just can’t.
My hands just don’t know how to do it, trust me, I’ve tried.
Thankfully, I can get my sims to do it instead and save me from the trouble.
What is Guitar Good For?
Guitar is just a fun skill to gain as your sims hobby, something fun they can do after a long day at work.
Guitar is also a necessary skill for your sims if you want to join the musician branch of the entertainer career in the game.
How to Gain The Guitar Skill
There are two ways you can get your sims to gain the guitar skill. The first is, to of course, play guitar. You can purchase a guitar in the buy catalog under hobbies and once you have it click on it and practice.
As your sim gains the skill they are going to start getting other options open including pluck some inspiration, jam, write song and more. Playing the guitar is definitely the best, and fastest way to gain this skill.
The other option is for you to purchase skill books by clicking on any bookcase and choosing to purchase books. There are three books to read to gain the guitar skill:
- Guitar Vol 1: Intro to Rocking
- Guitar Vol 2: The Classical Sauce
- Guitar Vol 3: Furious Finger Techniques
You’ll start with volume 1 and as you gain the skill your sim will be able to continue onto the next one to keep gaining the skill.
Best Mood to Practice Guitar
In The Sims 4 every skill has an emotion tied to it that helps your sims gain the skill more quickly.
Guitar is a creative skill so your sim is best off to be feeling inspired when they are practicing this skill. You can make your sims feel inspired by getting them to take a thoughtful shower which is super easy and then go practice right after.
Eventually you’ll unlock the ability to click on a guitar and choose pluck some inspiration which can give your sims an inspired moodlet, if you stack that with a thoughtful shower your sims will be so inspired they’ll gain the skill so quick.
Best Traits for Musical Sims
When you choose your traits for your sims you want to make sure that you are choosing the best traits based on what you want your sims to do with their lives. The best traits for a sim who wants to get good at guitar include:
- Creative: Creative sims are more likely to start feeling inspired which is the idea mood for this skill.
- Music Lover: A sim who is a music lover is going to get positive moodlets when playing instruments which can help boost their inspired moods.
- Muser: This trait is given to sims with creative aspirations and gives skill gain boosts to sims when they are feeling inspired.
You should also consider the lot traits your sim’s home has when you want to gain skills like guitar, these traits can be helpful:
- Great Acoustics: This lot trait comes with the base game and makes your sims earn the skill more quickly.
- Sunny Aspect: This lot trait comes with The Sims 4: City Living and will give your sims a random moodlet (Energized, Happy or Inspired) at 6 o’clock and you can use that inspired moodlet to your advantage when you get it.
- Study Spot: This lot trait comes with The Sims 4: Discover University and gives a boost to all skill gains!
How to Cheat The Guitar Skill
Cheating skills is my favourite because I hate grinding most of the time. We love cheating here at simming simplified so let’s go over the guitar skill cheat.
The cheat code is stats.set_skill_level Major_Guitar 10 which will max out your sim’s skill. If you want a different level of this skill you can just change the 10 to a different level of the skill from 1 to 10.
Guitar Skill Levels

| Level 4 | Your sim can now jam on the guitar. They can also play rock songs. |
| Level 5 | Your sim can now play country songs. They can also mentor others in guitar. |
| Level 6 | Your sim can now serenade other sims and play ballads. |
| Level 7 | Your sim can play Latin songs and lull sims to sleep. They can also promise to dedicate songs to other sims. |
| Level 8 | Your sim can now write, scrap and name songs. They can also play classical songs. |
| Level 9 | Your sim can now play jazz songs and license songs they’ve written at the mailbox. |
| Level 10 | Your sim can now play avant-garde songs. |
Making Money With Guitar
Writing & Licensing Music
When a sim reaches level 8 of the sims 4 guitar skill they are going to unlock the ability to start writing their own songs. They are able to now write, scrap and name their songs and you can do this by clicking on a guitar and choosing to write a song.
When the song is complete, your sim will have the song in their case of tricks and they’ll be able to play this song any time they want.
When they reach level 9 of the guitar skill they have the option to license these songs for money which is awesome. Your sim will click on the guitar and choose to license and pick the song and they will get royalties each morning at 10 AM for a few days.
Unfortunately there is a cool down period for licensing songs so you can’t license tons at a time like how publishing books works, but you can make a bit of extra money each day which can be helpful!
Earning Tips
When your sim starts getting good at guitar you might consider playing for tips in public. You can bring a guitar in your sim’s inventory to any public lot and if you start playing sims may give you tips!
You want to choose anything but practice as practice won’t give your sims any tips. Sims will come up and watch and eventually bend over and give you a tip, usually 20 simoleons.
Influencing Sims Mood
The first way you can influence a sim’s mood with guitar is by serenading a romantic partner. This only works if you have a romantic relationship with someone and it will give the other sim a +2 flirty moodlet for 8 hours!
The next thing you can do is lull sims to sleep with your music and when you complete this interaction the other sim will pass out wherever they are. This can be used if your sim is a meanie and you can make them fall asleep and then be naughty and cheat on them or something!
The rest of these options require your sim to have the Piper reward trait which you get when your sim completes the musical genius aspiration.
There are four fun songs you can play with the piper reward trait and each of them has funny impacts on other sims in the room, let’s go over each:
- Etude of Egress: This song makes any sims who are not a member of your sim’s family leave your sim’s house. This is great for getting people to leave after a welcome wagon or other random events when lots of sims come to visit.
- Song of Sophistication: This song makes every single sim in the room change into their formal clothes, that’s a weird one eh?
- Carol of Cleaning: This song makes sims clean, this is great if you have a ton of dirty dishes. Any sim in the room will just start cleaning up dishes, puddles, paint messes, literally anything that needs doing. Way cheaper than a maid! My sims even got a +1 Energized Carol of Cleaning moodlet!
- Ditty of Drowsiness: This depletes a sim’s energy need and will give them a +1 Uncomfortable moodlet from low energy
Guitar Mentorship
Whenever a sim maxes a skill they unlock the ability to mentor other sims in these skills. You just click on a sim who is currently playing the guitar and you can choose to mentor them. You can also click on a guitar and choose mentoring and choose a sim to mentor.
Plus, if you have The Sims 4: Business & Hobbies you can mentor for money! If you have level 10 of the skill your sims will get paid 430 simoleons per hour when mentoring guitar.
Improving The Sims 4 Guitar Skill With DLC
When you add DLC to any skill you can get some fun, new interactions and there are a few packs that can be integrated with the sims 4 guitar skill!
City Living
If you have The Sims 4: City Living your sims are also able to earn the singing skill and you can play guitar and sing at the same time which is so fun.
You’re able to earn both skills at once which is great if you want a super talented sim!
Discover University
If you have The Sims 4: Discover University your sims are able to sit in on skill classes for the guitar skill! You can go to the campus and find a specific building and pay ยง250 to earn a little bit of the skill.
Get Famous
With The Sims 4: Get Famous your sims are able to use their guitar skill to gain fame. You can gain fame by doing a bunch of interactions on a guitar in public including:
- Jam
- Practice
- Pluck Some Inspiration
- Sing Songs (City Living With Singing Skill)
Your sims are also able to gain fame when they license their songs for money too!
High School Years
Your sims are able to gain the entrepreneur skill pretty much any time they are earning money, this means they are able to gain this skill when they get tips from other sims!
