How to Win The Garden Competition in The Sims 4
There are a bunch of competitions to enter at the Finchwick fair and this is all about the garden competition in The Sims 4.
This fair comes with The Sims 4: Cottage Living and your sim will need to enter their best piece of gardening collectible.
How to Enter The Garden Competition in The Sims 4
The Garden Competition occurs at The Finchwick Garden Fair that happens every few weeks on a Saturday. The event starts at 3:30 and ends at 9:30 though judging doesn’t finish until around 10:30.
Before leaving for the fair, make sure that you have your garden item in your sim’s inventory!
Once there you’ll see small wooden stands with plants on a sign on the front. You’ll click on this and choose submit entry. A menu will open where you can choose which item to enter.
How to Win The Garden Competition in The Sims 4
You’ll want to bring your most rare and highest quality harvestable item that you can to try and win first place.
Bring Rare Items
To win you’ll want to bring a rare item, not something easy to find like an apple! You’ll need to find something like a death flower or a dragon fruit that are considered rare.
A death flower is an awesome option because after the fair you can keep it in your sim’s inventory and use it to successfully plead for the life of sims when they pass away.
To get a death flower you can either purchase rare seed packets if you sim has level 10 of the gardening skill or you can graft to get it.
Grafting to get a death flower requires you to graft together the following:
- An Apple and a Cherry to get Pomegranate
- A Lily and a Snapdragon to get an Orchid
- An Orchid and a Pomegranate to get a Death Flower
There are other rare items you can bring including dragon fruit, U.F.O (Unidentified Fruit Object), bird of paradise or orchids.
Note: I had three sims enter at the same time. They entered a death flower, a dragon fruit and an orchid. Each of them was perfect quality and the winning one was the orchid!
Bring High Quality Items
The other way to ensure you win is to bring a high quality rare item. This means that you need to evolve the plant to perfect quality to ensure first place.
You’ll know a plant can be evolved when it starts to sparkle. You’ll click on it and choose evolve and the quality of the item will increase.
A great way to get a plant to perfect quality quick with this pack is using a golden chicken. You can enable golden chicken help which means that they will improve the quality of any plants near them.
So, you can grow your plants near the chicken coop and they’ll use their magic and turn it straight from normal to perfect in one go!
Being Judged at the Garden Competition
While you’re at the competition you’ll see the mayor walking around and looking at everyone’s submissions. You have two options with the mayor, you can wait and be judged or try and win by bribing them.
You’ll click on the mayor and choose attempt to bribe judge for 250 simoleons. This can backfire though! It has a better chance of success if your sim has a good relationship with the mayor, but it won’t work every time.
You’ll need to wait until after the fair is over completely to see who won. You’ll get a notification with the Finchwick Fair Results that will tell you how you did. For first place, my sim got the following rewards:
- 1 Rainbow Treat
- 1 First Place Garden Competition Ribbon
The competition ribbon is one of the items for the village fair ribbon collection which is one of the hardest ones to complete. You need to get first place in every fair competition to get this collection done.
