The Sims 4 Fabrication Skill Guide
Let’s chat about fabrication! The sims 4 fabrication skill came to the game with The Sims 4: Eco Lifestyle.
This skill is all about crafting beautiful furniture, decor and candles and is a fun one to play with!
What is the Fabrication Skill Good For?
The fabrication skill has so many fun uses, the first being that your sims can create gorgeous items like furniture, decor and candles that burn beautifully.
Your sims can use many of these items to host a yard sale and sell them for money, and can earn a really great income with this!
How to Gain The Fabrication Skill
The very first way you can gain this skill is by purchasing the fabrication skill books from any bookcase in the game. There are three books your sims will need to read:
- Fabrication Vol 1: Thermoplastics and You
- Fabrication Vol 2: Additive Manufacturing
- Fabrication Vol 3: Postprocessing and Finishing
You’ll want to read these books starting with Volume 1 from level 1-4, then read Volume 2 from level 4-7 then finish with Volume 3!
Pro Tip: If you have The Sims 4: City Living, add the peace and quiet lot trait and your sims will gain skills faster from skill books.
The next way you can gain this skill is by fabricating items with the Store No More Home Fabricator. You’ll find this in the hobbies and skills section of the build menu and it will cost §1,800.
To use these machines you’ll need to get your sims bits and pieces. These are obtained in a bunch of ways including dumpster diving, recycling and more. You can even cheat to get these which we’ll discuss later!
To fabricate items on this you’ll click on it and choose fabricate and a menu will open showing what items your sim is able to fabricate so far with their skill level. When you click one it will drop down all the colour options you have depending on what colour dyes you have in your sim’s inventory.
You can easily purchase dyes by clicking on the machine and choosing purchase dyes and picking which colours you’d like to have.
The next way you can earn this skill is through candle making on the Von Wick & Co. Candle Making Table which you can purchase for §550.
To craft candles your sims are going to need to have Soy in their inventory. You are able to purchase this by clicking on the candle making table and choosing purchase ingredients and scrolling to the bottom to find the soy wax.
They will also need bits & pieces, you can scroll down in this page and a whole section about how you can get these!
To make candles you’ll click on the station and choose make candle and a menu will appear showing what kinds of candles you have unlocked so far. When you click on it it’ll pop open the line and ask if you want to make it in a different colour.
Ideal Mood for Fabrication
The emotions system in The Sims 4 has a huge impact on your sim’s skill gains, and there’s a specific mood that will increase skill gains for each skill. For fabrication, you want your sims to feel focused.
Want an easy way to make that happen? Get a sim to ponder moves on a chess board!
Best Traits for Fabrication
When you create a sim or have them age up, you need to give them good traits! The following traits can impact your sim’s ability to gain this skill quickly:
- Genius: Sims with this trait get random focused moodlets, letting them gain the skill quicker
- Practice Makes Perfect: Sims with this trait start with gaining skills slower, but will get increased speed as they continue on in higher levels. Plus, they get lots of focused moodlets
- Cheerful: Cheerful sims get lots of happy moodlets that can stack with focused to make it stronger!
You should also consider the lot traits your sim’s home has because they can increase skill gains too:
- Study Spot: This lot trait from Discover University gives a skill boost gain to all skills!
How to Cheat The Sims 4 Fabrication Skill
If you don’t want your sims to earn this skill the old fashioned way, you have the option to cheat the skill. To do this you’ll need to know stats.set_skill_level major_fabrication 10 to max the skill.
If you want a different level the skill you change the 10 to a number from 1-9 to get that level instead.
Levels of the Skill
There are ten levels of fabrication for your sims to earn, as they gain the skill they’ll be able to craft new items and get new interactions.

| Level 1 | Your sim is beginning their journey into the world of fabrication! Creating objects on the fabricator or crafting candles at the candle making table will increase their fabrication skill. |
| Level 2 | Your sim can now craft the living chair and outdoor chair on the fabricator, as well as give crafted items as gifts. |
| Level 3 | Your sim can now craft the dresser on the fabricator and the cylindrical candle on the candle-making station. |
| Level 4 | Your sim can now craft the dining table, dining chair, plumbing upgrade parts, kitchen upgrade parts, and common upgrade parts on the fabricator. |
| Level 5 | Your sim can now craft the floor light on the fabricator and the rectangular candle on the candle making station. They can also mentor others in fabrication. |
| Level 6 | Your sim can now craft the single bed on the fabricator. |
| Level 7 | Your sim can now craft the double bed on the fabricator and the carved candle on the candle making station. |
| Level 8 | Your sim can now craft the kid’s bed on the fabricator. |
| Level 9 | Your sim can now craft the outdoor couch and the outdoor trellis on the fabricator. They can create emotional aura candles on the candle-making station. |

Mentoring The Sims 4 Fabrication Skill
Once your sim reaches level five of this skill they are going to unlock the ability to mentor others in this skill. This is done by clicking on the fabricator and choosing mentor and picking a sim.
What does this do? Well, a sim who is being mentored will gain the skill more quickly than sims who are earning it on their own.
If you have The Sims 4: Business & Hobbies installed your sims can also mentor for money. A sim with level 5 of the skill will earn §80 per hour and a level 10 earns §430 per hour.
How to Get Bits & Pieces
There are a couple ways you can get bits & pieces but the easiest way is to purchase the home recycler and search for items in the dumpster and use this machine to recycle them.
When you click on the recycler you’ll choose recycle from inventory and a menu will open showing everything your sim can recycle. The first time you do this it will show you a notification to teach you more!
Pro Tip: Hover over your sim’s household funds and you’ll be able to see how many bits and pieces your sims have collected!
If you want bits & pieces without the effort you can cheat it! Enable cheats with testingcheats true then hold down shift and click on your sim and go to give bucks and choose either recycle bits or recycle pieces.
Clicking on either of these will give your sim 500 of them, cheat both and you’ll be good to craft candles and other goodies for a while.
Earning Money With The Sims 4 Fabrication Skill
If you want your sim to earn an income through this skill, you’ll want to purchase the Ground Floor Entrepreneur’s Table from the buy catalog.
You can use this table to have a sale on all the candles your sims are crafting and start a yard sale to have sims appear and start purchasing your creations! If a sim has a higher level in the charisma skill they will be able to convince sims easier to buy their goods!
Pro Tip: If no one is buying, click on the sims who are visiting and choose give sales pitch and there’s a higher chance they’ll buy.
Selling Items on Plopsy With The Sims 4: Nifty Knitting
If you have The Sims 4: Nifty Knitting installed in your game, you can list your candle creations on Plopsy. Think of Plopsy like Etsy, you can list the items and sims will buy them.
To list candles you’ll go into your sim’s inventory and click on the item and choose list on plopsy. It will then turn pink and turn into a listing and you can see the information for that item by hovering over it.
When your sim sells an item on Plopsy they’ll get a notification and the candle listing will turn blue. If you agree to the sales price you can click the item and choose ship on plopsy and your sim will send it from the mailbox and you’ll get paid.
