The Sims 4 Acting Skill Guide
Want your sims to be talented? Let them gain the sims 4 acting skill!
Your sims are ready to test their acting chops in The Sims 4: Get Famous and they’re going to need the acting skill to do it.
Will they become a famous actor? Only time will tell.
What is the Acting Skill Good For?
The acting skill is a must-have if you want your sims to join the acting career, of course. Your sims can also use this skill to perform in public and can earn money from tips if being a full time actor isn’t their thing.
How to Gain The Acting Skill
The first way you can gain this skill is by choosing practice acting on a mirror. Your sim will stand in front of the mirror holding a script and will act for hours!

At level 4 of the skill you’ll unlock The Trouper’s Looking Glass. This is just a fancy looking mirror, but it will help you gain the skill more quickly than other mirrors in the game.

The other way you can gain this skill is by practicing acting on a microphone. You just choose practice acting and your sims will put on quite a performance.

At level 8 of the acting skill your sim unlocks the #Basic Microphone Stand. This works like all other microphones but will help gain you the acting skill more quickly!

Another way you can gain this skill is by performing scenes. This isn’t my favourite way because your sim doesn’t perform for very long, so you have to keep clicking it again but it does help!
If you want your sims to take a more hands-off approach to learning this skill, you can also decide to have them read skill books. There are three books you can purchase from any bookcase:
- Acting Vol 1: Finding Character
- Acting Vol 2: Finding a Voice
- Acting Vol 3: Finding The Drama

You’ll read the first book from level 1-4, the second from 4-7, and you’ll finish the skill with volume 3.
Ideal Mood for Acting
The emotions of your sims actually have a big impact on their skill gains. If your sim has the perfect mood for a skill they’ll gain it more quickly.
The ideal mood for the acting skill is confident, makes sense. You can easily get a sim feeling confident by getting them to brush their teeth at a sink or by psyching themselves up at a mirror.
Best Traits for Acting
The traits that you give your sims actually have a huge impact on them. They can improve skill gains by giving certain moodlets and keep your sims in good moods. The best traits for a sim who wants to pursue acting are:
- Self-Assured: Since confident is the best mood for this skill, self assured is great. These sims get random confident moodlets!
- Cheerful: Cheerful is great for any sim because they get random happy moodlets that can boost confident.
How to Cheat The Acting Skill
If you want your sim to start out and be great at acting without effort, you can always just cheat it. The cheat you need is stats.set_skill_level Major_Acting 10 to max the skill.
If you want your sim to have a different level of the skill you can change the 10 to whatever number from 1-9 you’d rather have!
Levels of the Acting Skill
There are ten levels of the acting skill for your sim to gain. As they gain the skill they’ll unlock new scenes they can perform and fun things like a fancy mirror and microphone.
Skill Level | Level Unlocks |
---|---|
Level 1 | Your sim’s new skill in acting allows them to practice acting in the mirror or with a microphone. |
Level 2 | Your sim is now skilled enough to practice acting with another sim. They can also do the cry on demand interaction. |
Level 3 | Your sim now learned how to perform a romance scene with another sim. This can also be done for tips to earn extra income. They can also use their skill to save an awkward conversation. |
Level 4 | Your sim has unlocked The Trouper’s Looking Glass which will help them improve the acting skill much faster. |
Level 5 | Your sim can now perform a musical scene. |
Level 6 | Your sim can now perform an action scene. They can also act not bored to save themselves or save a boring conversation to save everyone from boredom. |
Level 7 | Your sim can now perform a horror scene. They can also save an unpleasant conversation from any faux pas. |
Level 8 | Your sim can now perform a sci-fi scene. They have also unlocked the #Basic Microphone Stand which will h help build acting faster than other microphones. |
Level 9 | Your sim is now able to perform a comedy scene. If those jokes fail they can use the ability to act not embarrassed to clear out any embarrassed feelings. |
Level 10 | Your sim’s ating skill has reached its pinnacle. They can now perform drama scenes. They have also unlocked a special gold jacket and pants that will really shine. |
You really need to see the level 10 unlock of the gold jacket and pants.

Getting Tips for Performing Scenes
If you don’t want your sim to join the acting career but want to earn money you do have the option of performing scenes for tips. However, this is kind of a bad way to earn an income.

I had my sim perform 10 scenes in a row, with lots of people at this park. She got one tip of 15 simoleons and she had level 9 of the skill. Definitely not a reliable way to earn an income.
Mentoring Acting
I couldn’t find ways to mentor acting on the microphone or the mirror, but mentoring acting did appear randomly as an option when clicking on another sim.

When you do this your sim will start teaching the other sim acting and they’ll gain the skill faster than they could on their own.
