How to Graft onto Plants in The Sims 4
If you want to truly experience gardening you need to know how to graft onto plants in The Sims 4.
Grafting is how you can take a piece of one plant and add it to another to create a new plant, or a hybrid plant.
It’s a great way to get those harder to find items like a death flower to make things like ambrosia!
How to Graft onto Plants in The Sims 4
To start, your sim is going to need to be at level 5 of the gardening skill to unlock the ability to splice and graft plants! Once you’ve hit level 5 you can start grafting plants.
The first thing you’ll need to do is have a fully grown plant and click on it and choose take cutting. This will place a spliced garden shoot into your sim’s inventory and that is what you’ll graft onto another plant.

Once you have that spliced garden shoot in your inventory you can click on the other plant you wish to graft onto and click graft and a menu will open letting you choose what you want to graft onto it.

When you do this the plant will change its look! You may get a whole new plant depending on the combination or the plant will just start growing both items on the single plant which is great if you don’t have a huge lot to grow all sorts of items.

Grafting a Cowplant Berry
There are certain things I love in the game and a cowplant is one of them! Getting a cowplant is a pain if you want to find a cowplant berry by fishing or finding one in dig sites, so grafting one is a great way to create one.
To create a cowplant berry you’ll need to do two steps:
- Graft a Snapdragon with a Strawberry to get a Dragonfruit
- Graft a Dragonfruit with a Snapdragon to get a Cowplant Berry
You can then plant this to get a cute (but also scary) friend that may eat you!
Grafting a Death Flower
The death flower is something many players never use, but is so smart to know about. If a sim witnesses the death of another sim and grim appears they can give him a death flower to plead for the life and it will help to keep them alive!
There are three steps to take to graft a death flower:
- Graft an Apple with a Cherry to get a Pomegranate
- Graft a Lily with a Snapdragon to get an Orchid
- Graft a Pomegranate with an Orchid to get a Death Flower
Then keep that death flower growing until you can put one in the inventory of every member of your household so you can save sims from death!
Now that you know how to graft plants you can be the best gardener out there, and finish the freelance botanist aspiration with ease!
