Best Traits for The Sims 4 Critter Hunter Aspiration
When working through aspirations you want to pick the best traits for your sims so you can get the aspirations done quicker and easier. Here are some fun traits to add for this aspiration:
- Loves the Outdoors: This aspiration has your sim needing to catch some bugs, so you’ll want them to enjoy being outdoors
- Genius: The ideal mood is focused for the entomology skill, so this trait can help your sim get that more often.
- Practice Makes Perfect: This will help your sim gain the entomology skill faster because they’ll get strong focused moodlets from it.
Stages of the Aspiration
There are four stages of the sims 4 critter hunter aspiration to play through. You’ll do things like gaining the entomology skill and raising butterflies and eventually earn the critter enthusiast trait.
Stage One: Amateur Lepidopterist

- Purchase a Butterfly & Moth Habitat
The first task you need to complete is to purchase the Gibbi Point Butterfly & Moth Habitat. This will cost your sim 600 simoleons but it’ll be useful later on when you need access to butterflies!

- Catch 5 Butterflies
Your next task is to catch 5 butterflies, now this can actually be kind of difficult because each butterfly has a specific location to find it. You can go into your sim’s notebook at any time and into the collections menu to find the Gibbi Point Butterflies & Moths.
When you hover over them you’ll see a riddle for each, this tells you where to find them but they will have specific requirements like only being able to be caught at night or at certain festivals.

Once you find one you’ll click on it and choose catch whatever type it is. It will appear in your sim’s inventory and you’ll be able to place it in your habitat.
- Examine 3 Common Butterflies
Once you’ve either caught a butterfly or raised it in the incubator you’ll see it in your sim’s inventory. You can drag this item onto a surface and click on it and choose examine. Your sim will study the butterfly and when done, they’ll know more about it.

- Craft 3 Paper Butterflies
To craft a paper butterfly you’ll need to purchase the DIY Delight Papercrafting Kit.

You can also find these around some random places like in parks in the world and you can use those without needing to spend the 20 simoleons.

Once you have the kit you can click on it and choose craft origami and then choose butterfly. A menu will open and you’ll need to choose which style and you’ll have options like different colours or even to make one from simoleons. Make three of these total and you’ll finish this part super easy.

Pro Tip: Click on the finished butterfly in your sim’s inventory and allow wall mounting for some super cheat and super cute wall decor!
Stage Two: Critter Allure

- Craft 3 Paper Mache Animals
With the same DIY Papercrafting Kit you’ll want to click on it and choose craft paper mache and choose any of the options under funky animal.

You’ll need to do this three times and you can either sell them or use them as home decor!
- Catch 4 Fish While Bowfishing
When your sim reaches level four of the archery skill they are able to start bowfishing. You’ll click on any regular fishing spot and instead of choosing go fishing, you’ll choose go bowfishing.

When you do this you’ll see your sim take their bow and arrow and shoot it right into the body of water and they will catch fish this way.
- Go Fishing with a Buddy
You have two options for this one, you can either find a sim who is fishing or invite a sim to fish. The first option you’ll want to find a sim who is already fishing at one of these spots and click on the spot and choose fish together with and choose that sim.

The other option your sim will start fishing and you can click on a nearby sim and choose to invite them to fish.

- Give a Pet Fish a Name
The next thing you need to do is name a pet fish! You’ll want to get a fish bowl by purchasing the Fit4Fish Crystal Fish Bowl for 60 simoleons.

You’ll click on this and put a fish inside that you’ve caught. Then you can click on it and click name and change the name of the fish!

Stage Three: Aspirant Lepidopterist

- Catch and Examine a Rare Butterfly
There are four rare butterflies to catch in the game and each of them have varying difficulty. Since they’re rare they require a little more effort to find, but you can read this post to find out the locations for each butterfly to find it.
Once you do, you can place it in the world and click on it and chose examine to finish this task.
- Rehome Butterfly at a Gibbi Point Topiary
Around Gibbi Point you’ll see these adorable floral topiaries and they actually serve a purpose. You can click on these and choose to rehome a butterfly or moth. When you click this a menu will open and you can choose any butterfly from your sim’s inventory to rehome to this topiary.

When rehomed the butterfly or moth will live there and fly above the topiary and you can come visit it whenever!
- View Butterfly in a Butterfly & Moth Habitat
Once you’ve caught a butterfly and purchase the habitat from stage one you can place your moths and butterflies inside. You’ll click on it and choose to place all available ones inside of it.

Now that there are moths and butterflies inside you can click on it and choose view Gibbi Point Butterfly & Moth habitat to finish this part.
- Start Raising a Caterpillar
The next thing you need to do is start raising a caterpillar which you’ll do by purchasing the Flutterarium Caterpillar Incubator.

Once you place this on a surface in your sim’s house you can click on it and choose start raising a caterpillar. Depending on your sim’s level of the entomology skill you’ll have different options of what to raise, or you can choose to pick an unkown one.

Stage Four: Refined Catch

- Craft a Magical Origami Butterfly
To be able to craft a magical origami butterfly you need two things. First, level two of the papercraft skill and second, to have already caught or raised the other 13 butterflies and moths. If you haven’t gotten every butterfly and moth yet you can see the location for each here!
To craft this you’ll go to the DIY papercraft item and click on it and choose craft origami and then choose the magical origami butterfly.

When you place this into a habitat you’ll see this origami butterfly come to life and become the 14th butterfly in the collection.

- Complete the Butterflies & Moths Collection
This part of the aspiration will take your sim a while. There are fourteen butterflies & moths to collect and each of them has a little riddle you can see in the collections menu.

I’ve managed to figure out where to find all fourteen so you can use that to help find them by catching them. Your other option is to keep raising caterpillars until you have managed to get all of them grown!
- Research Mating Rituals of Butterflies
This is a super easy thing to do, you’ll want to find a computer and click on it. You’ll go to the web > research menu and find Research Mating Rituals of Butterflies.

Once you do it you’ll see some fun new butterfly themed romantic interactions for your sim which is super cute.
The final task for this aspiration is to get your sim to level 5 of the entomology skill. You gain this skill when you raise and care for caterpillars and when you catch butterflies and moths. It’s easy to max this skill since it’s only five levels!
Critter Enthusiast Reward Trait
When your sim finishes off the sims 4 critter hunter aspiration they’ll be given the critter enthusiast reward trait.

The description for this trait says “These sims can chat with butterflies, as well as fish in fish bowls or aquariums. They can also Enthuse about Critters to other sims! They have also learned the mystical mating ritual of butterflies, allowing them to be able to perform unique butterfly-themed romantic interactions on other sims.”
