The Sims 4 Baking Skill Guide
The sims 4 baking skill is a fun skill that lets you sims create delicious things from Alien Fruit Tarts to yummy Voodoo Doll Donuts and some regular baked goods too!
It’s fun to make these baked goods for parties or just a random Tuesday in the game.
What is the Baking Skill Good for?
The baking skill is great for making some fun baked goods, but it doesn’t end there. It’s actually a great money maker once you get a high skill.
You can click on your complete items and sell to local bakery for some quick cash and if you decorate them you can earn even more!
How to Gain The Sims 4 Baking Skill
There are three ways your sims are able to gain the baking skill in The Sims 4: Get to Work. The first way is by clicking on a fridge and choosing any of the baked items from the bake menu where you’ll start with items like breadsticks.

The next way you can gain the skill is by purchasing the cupcake machine from the build menu. This large machine produces cupcakes with the cooking skill but with the baking skill you get to choose great items like scones and salmon croquettes.

The final way you can gain this skill is by reading the three baking books you can purchase from a bookcase:
- Baking Vol 1: Mix
- Baking Vol 2: Shape
- Baking Vol 3: Bake
These books are read one at a time, you’ll start with volume 1 until you reach level 4. Then move to volume 2 until level 7 and start volume 3.

If you have The Sims 4: City Living installed you can also add the peace and quiet lot trait to your sim’s household and your sim will gain any skills built with books faster!
Ideal Mood for Baking
The emotions your sims have are strong and they are important for gaining skills. Baking is a creative outlet for sims and you’ll want them to be feeling inspired to get the baking skill.
Feeling inspired gives your sims skill gains more quickly and you can make your sims feel inspired by taking a thoughtful shower.
Best Traits for Baking
The traits you give your sims are important because they will have an impact on how quickly they gain skills and the mood they’re in when they’re doing things.
- Creative: Since inspired works for baking you want your sims to be creative because these sims gets inspired moodlets.
- Cheerful: Cheerful sims get happy moodlets sometimes and this can stack with inspired and make it stronger.
You can also add lot traits to make your sims gain skills more quickly and there is one that will help with baking:
- Homey: This lot trait increases skill gains for all cooking (baking, gourmet cooking, regular cooking) as well as mixology, handiness and gardening.
How to Cheat the Sims 4 Baking Skill
The baking skill is able to be cheated which is great, because I want to make great stuff for my sims without having to get good first. The skill you need to know is stats.set_skill_level major_baking 10 to max out this skill.
If you want to just get a different level of the skill you’ll just change the 10 at the end to any other number from 1-9.
Levels of the Baking Skill
There are ten levels of the baking skill available to be earned. The only new ability you earn is the ability to decorate their baked goods which unlocks at level 3. The rest of the unlocks are things you can bake either on the fridge or cupcake machine.

To make money from this you’ll click on the baked good and choose sell to local bakery and the item will disappear and you’ll get money.

If you want to earn slightly more you can decorate the item which unlocks at level 3 of the skill. This increases the pay by a lot, for example, my sim made this baked good that was worth §207 before decorating and §310 after decorating which is wild for how little effort it is.

Caring for Your Cupcake Machine
Your cupcake machine isn’t going to stay pristine and full stocked forever. You can run into some issues that can cause your sim to not be able to use it.

The first problem is an empty machine which you can fix easily by choose refill machine (§20) and your sim will go over to the funnel section and add more ingredients.
The second problem is a dirty machine, your sims can clean this easily with a sponge and spray bottle. A neat sim will have the polish to perfection option on this machine.

Mentoring The Baking Skill
Mentoring is great because your sims can help other sims to gain skills so much more quickly. Mentoring is unlocked at level 5 but the skill gain will be faster at level 10.
You can have a sim click on the cupcake machine to ask for mentoring from a sim, or you can have your baking skill sim click and you’ll see a mentoring option.

If you have The Sims 4: Business & Hobbies you can even mentor for money. A sim with a level 10 skill will earn §430 per hour with their mentoring which will be paid when the mentoring is over.
