How to Get a Suntan in The Sims 4

In the summer you may want your sims to get a suntan in The Sims 4.

This is an ability you get with The Sims 4: Island Living and leaves some interesting tan lines for your sims!

How to Get a Suntan in The Sims 4

To get a suntan your sim has two options, to either sunbathe on a towel or on a lounge chair. For both you’ll want to click on sunbathe in.

You’ll have the option to sunbathe in your swimwear, your sim’s current outfit or in the nude. What you choose can change the way your sim’s tan lines look!

You’ll know that your sim has gotten a sun tan when they get a moodlet called Sunkissed which gives them a +2 Happy and says “Your sim has stayed out in the sun long enough to get a solid tan.”

Your sim will get a tan in the shape of whatever clothes they’re wearing, so if you plan on wearing something strapless, don’t tan in things with straps! You’ll get some truly hilarious sun tans.

How to Avoid Sunburns from Tanning

You need to be careful because you can tan for too long and end up with a sunburn which is super unpleasant for your sims.

When you start getting to a point where you may get a sunburn you’ll get a +2 Tense moodlet called Starting to Burn that says “If your sim stays out in the sun much longer they’ll get a nasty burn.”

The second you see this you’ll want to cancel the action to avoid a sunburn! If you don’t your sim will get a +2 uncomfortable moodlet called Burning! which says “Alas, it’s too late for your sim. Their skin is officially burnt. Anymore of this really can’t be healthy.”

Your sim will be bright red for a while until their sun burn heals, and it’s not a good look! So avoid this if you want to keep their skin from being red.

Getting a suntan is so easy, you just need to hangout and sunbathe but for the perfect amount of time. You’ll be living that beach life and having the best time with your new tan!
