The Sims 4 Natural Living Skill Guide
We could all benefit from spending more time in nature and with the sims 4 natural living skill your sims can!
This skill from The Sims 4: Enchanted by Nature is great for making sims love the great outdoors!
What is Natural Living Good For?
One of my favourite ways to play The Sims 4 is to do a rags to riches challenge where my sims have no money and no house. Just an empty lot and they need to survive. The natural living skill makes this so much better!
With this skill your sim can sleep on the ground, bathe in bodies of water, summon a Privy bush to use the bathroom and eat raw fish! It makes taking care of a sim without a home so much easier.
How to Gain The Sims 4 Natural Living Skill
There are a bunch of ways your sim can gain the natural living skill and all of them involve your sims spending time outdoors. The first way to gain the skill is to use the forage options to find items on grass anywhere in any world.
As you gain the skill you’ll move on and unlock specific forage options like for food or collectibles.
The next way your sim can gain this skill is sleeping outside. You can click on the ground at any time and choose sleep here and your sim will curl up and take a slumber.

As you gain the skill your sim will enjoy this experience more, you’ll get tense moodlets to start but eventually it’ll help restore your sim’s balance and they’ll get positive moodlets.
The best part about using the sleep here option to gain the skill is that your sim will gain the skill the entire time they are sleeping, so if they sleep for 8 hours they’ll gain the skill the entire time.
Your sim can also gain the skill by working on their hygiene and bladder needs. For hygiene you can click on natural bodies of water and choose bathe in water and your sim will go clean themselves.

For the bladder need your sim can click on the ground and choose summon a privy bush and a bush will appear that they can use as a bathroom.

As your sim gets a higher level of the skill they’ll get more positive moodlets from bathing in water or summon a privy bush.

At level 7 of the skill your sim can start meditating in nature, which will help them gain the skill too!

As you continue gaining the skill you’ll unlock abilities like being able to eat raw fish and even eat frogs. This is so helpful for rags to riches challenges because you can breed frogs and never pay for food again!

The final way you can gain the skill is through skill books. You can purchase these for your sim at any time from a computer or by clicking on a bookcase. There are three natural living books for purchase.

When you earn the skill this way you’ll read the first volume from level 1 to 4, then volume two from 4-7 and then volume three from 7-10.
Ideal Mood for Natural Living
Each of the skills in The Sims 4 has an ideal mood attached to it. This means that when your sim is in the right mood they’ll gain the skill more quickly. The ideal mood for natural living is inspired!
You can make your sim inspired by taking a thoughtful shower, that’s the easiest way! You can also drink inspired potions you can make with the apothecary skill from this pack.
Best Traits for Gaining The Sims 4 Natural Living Skill
There are so many traits to choose from and it can get overwhelming. You should know which traits work to make gaining specific skills easier, so here’s some that can be helpful to gain natural living:
- Loves Outdoors: All of this skill is gained in the great outdoors, so of course you’d want your sim to at least enjoy it with loves outdoors!
- Creative: Since the ideal mood for this skill is inspired creative is a nice option! Creative sims are going to get inspired moodlets more often which can be so helpful.
You can also think about adding lot traits to your sim’s lot to help you, but since most of this doesns’t happen on the lot there aren’t many that can help. However, if you add the peace & quiet lot trait from The Sims 4: Jungle Adventure to your lot your sim can gain the skill 50% faster when reading skill books!
How to Cheat The Natural Living Skill
We all know you want to know how to cheat the skill, of course you do! This one was harder to find, since it doesn’t follow the normal naming scheme. You can use stats.set_skill_level skill_NLS 10 to max out the skill.
If you want a different level of the skill you can change the 10 at the end to any number from 1 to 9.
