Your sims will be playing chess, learning about space and doing so many cute experiments!
How to Get a Jumpstart on The Sims 4 Mental Skill
The best way to give your sims a great life is to make sure that you know all the tips and tricks to give them a jumpstart on their peers.
If you work hard with your sims as a toddler you can start with a few levels of skills!
The mental skill is tied to the thinking skill as a toddler so if your sim maxes that skill you can start with 2 levels and a 94% full bar (so practically three levels) of the mental skill at age up!
How to Gain The Mental Skill
There are honestly so many ways to gain the mental skill so its a fun one because your sims don’t just have to do one task over and over.
The first way to gain the skill is with the science table where your sims can experiment.
As you gain the skill your sim can start creating potions that can change their mood and it’s adorable. Just make sure you have a smoke detector near because these can start fires!
The next way that you can gain the mental skill is by getting your sim to play chess. They can play by themselves or with other sims to bond with their family and it’s adorable!
If you purchase a telescope for your sim’s house you can actually get kids to moon and star gaze and this too will gain them the mental skill. It’s a very precious thing when they’re learning about the cosmos!
When you reach level two of the mental skill your sims are going to unlock the ability to play arithmetic attack on the computer. This is great because it’s considered a video game so your sim can gain the video gaming skill too!
At level six of the skill your sims unlock the ability to research on simpedia on the computer. This is just another easy way to get your sims to gain that mental skill!
Levels of the Sims 4 Mental Skill
There are ten levels of the mental skill for a child to earn and with each level they are going to get some unlocks.

| Level 3 | Child is on their way to becoming a true savant. They will win chess games more often. |

| Level 5 | Children can now talk about fractions with other sims. |
| Level 6 | Children can now research Simpedia at a computer. |
| Level 7 | Children can create emotion potions at a science table. They will also get better moodlets from the science table and space ship jungle gym. |
| Level 8 | Children are getting smarter and will win chess games more often. |
| Level 9 | Children will sometimes gain more mental skill from research on simpedia and play arithmetic game on a computer. They can also attempt mental telepathy. |
| Level 10 | Children can now create stink drink at a science table. |
How to Cheat The Mental Skill
I’m obsessed with cheats in The Sims 4. If you want your sims to be smart without having to put in the effort, you can just go ahead and and cheat the skill instead. The cheat code you need is stats.set_skill_level skill_child_mental 10 to max it out.
If you want a different level of the skill you just change out the 10 for a different number from 1-10!
Gaining Logic and Mental Together
One of my favourite things is that with an update to the game you can now gain other skills at the same time as these child skills. You can actually gain the logic skill at the same time as the mental skill which is game-changing for being able to get a jump start on life.
The three things that I’ve found can gain the logic skill are:
- Playing Chess
- Star Gazing on a Telescope
- Using the Science Table
Gaining Mental and Video Gaming
You can also gain the video gaming skill by playing arithmetic attack on the computer. This is unlocked at mental level two and can be found under play game on the computer!
