The Sims 4 Outdoor Enthusiast Aspiration
If you love camping and the great outdoors the sims 4 outdoor enthusiast aspiration could be for you!
This aspiration from The Sims 4: Outdoor Retreat is a fun one where your sim will need to go camping a lot.
They’ll gain the herbalism skill, cook beetles over a fire and catch fun fish.
Collector Bonus Trait
When your sim starts with a nature aspiration like this one (or another like the eco innovator aspiration) they’ll get the collector bonus trait. This trait will help them to find rare collectibles more often which isn’t super helpful for this aspiration but is still super fun.

Best Traits for The Sims 4 Outdoor Enthusiast Aspiration
You should always plan your aspirations and traits together so you can have an easier time. Here’s some traits that can help your sim be an outdoor enthusiast:
- Genius: This aspiration has your sim needing to gain the herbalism skill and catch fish, both of which are easier when a sim is focused. Genius sims gets focused more often!
- Practice Makes Perfect: This trait is great because it starts a sim off gaining skills slower but then gives skill boosts later on. Plus, it gives strong focused moodlets.
- Loves Outdoors: This aspiration makes your sim spend a lot of time outside looking for bugs and plants, so they’ll want to love being outside.
Since this aspiration is done in Granite Falls and not at home, there are no lot traits to add that can be helpful.
Stages of the Aspiration
There are four stages of the sims 4 outdoor enthusiast aspiration to play through. Your sim will have tasks to complete from identifying plants to cooking beetles over a campfire. When you finish these tasks you’ll get satisfaction points to spend!
Stage One: Greenhorn

When you are walking around in Granite Falls you’ll see lots of plants around that you can harvest. However, unlike plants in regular worlds you won’t immediately know what they are. When you hover over them it’ll say unidentified instead of saying exactly what it is.

Your sim just needs to click on these and choose harvest to put the items in your inventory to satisfy this requirement. As you gain the herbalism skill you can actually identify these items!
- Catch 5 Fish in Granite Falls
Throughout granite falls you’ll find tons of water and where there is water you’ll find fishing locations. These locations are denoted by small wooden signs with a fish on them and you can click on these and choose to fish there.

To finish this task you just need to catch 5 fish while in this vacation world! If you want to catch fish faster you can make sure your sim is feeling focused before sending them to fish.
Stage Two: Forest Scout

There are a number of ways your sim is able to gain the herbalism skill, and most of them happen in Granite Falls. The first way is by harvesting unidentified plants and attempting to identify them.
Once you have these plants in your sim’s inventory you can click on them and choose attempt to identify. If your sim is successful you’ll find out what the item is!

Another way you can gain the skill is by creating herbal remedies which you can do on grills and stoves.

If you want to gain the skill at home you can always purchase herbalism skill books by clicking on a bookcase and choosing purchase books. You’ll be able to read these to gain the skill so you can do it without having to pay for a vacation rental!
When you’re walking around in Granite Falls or in the Deep Woods you’ll see bugs on the ground and flying around all over. You have the option to click on them and choose collect insects.

Every time you get an insect you’ll get a notification letting you know what kind of insect it is. When you see one that says beetles you’re ready to go.
Head to any camp fire in Granite Falls and click on it and choose roast and then choose beetles.

Your sim can eat these as a meal and doing this twice will satisfy this requirement.
- Eat 10 Plants
Your final task for this part of the aspiration is so eat ten plants. I found that this only applied to the plants from Granite Falls for me. I tried to have my sim eat a strawberry but that didn’t count.
You can eat plants even before they are identified but some of them have bad impacts on your sim. For example, eating a Noxious Elderberry will give your sim a +2 sad moodlet called Melancholy Berry that says “Some berries just bring on the gloom.”

You just need to go ahead and eat plants 10 times. You can even eat the same plant over and over, no need to find 10 unique plants.
Stage Three: Wilderness Explorer

- Craft 3 Excellent Herbal Remedies
A huge part about herbalism is crafting herbal remedies which can have a huge impact on your sim’s life. You can craft these at any stove or grill. You’ll click on those items and chose brew herbal remedy and pick any of the ones you have the ingredients for.

Once the item is complete you can hover over it and see what the quality is. To get an excellent quality remedy there are a few things you can do.
The first thing is make sure that your sim is in a good mood, meaning their needs are well taken care of and their mood is correct for the herbalism skill. The ideal mood for herbalism is focused so having your sim focused will help get an excellent quality easier.
You also want to make sure that your sim has a high herbalism skill! When my sim made these they were at level 8 of the skill and all of them were coming out excellent quality.

There are ten unidentified plants to find in Granite Falls that you need to harvest and attempt to identify. To finish this aspiration you’ll need to attempt to identify all ten of them!
Any time you find a new plant you’ll get it in your inventory and then click on it and choose attempt to identify to find out what it is.

When you do this you’ll get a notification telling you exactly what it is and now when you click on the plant in Granite falls with this sim it’ll have the name instead of Wild Plant.

There are ten plants to find, so you’ll need to discover all of these:
- Chamomile
- Toxic Chamomile
- Elderberry
- Noxious Elderberry
- Fireleaf
- Poison Fireleaf
- Morel Mushroom
- False Morel Mushroom
- Huckleberry
- Muckleberry
Pro Tip: If you’re having a problem with finding them all because you have The Sims 4: Seasons installed and some aren’t in seasons, you can use this pack disabler to disable seasons for a while and go get all the plants then go back in with seasons installed again!
There are many secrets in The Sims 4 and the hermit in Granite falls is one of them. To find this sim you’ll need to travel to the Granite Falls Forest lot. You’ll find a cave with brambles on it at the edge of this lot, you’ll need to search for a minute.

Once you find it you’ll click on it and choose explore and you’ll get a set of action cards. You need to answer them as follows:
- Step Forward
- Keep Walking
- Sally Forth
- Travel Towards the Sim

Then you’ll get a would you like to travel into the deep woods question, click ok!

Once you make your way to the deep woods you can search for the sim who lives there, they will be the only sim you find in this area. The sim will be different depending on your save file and how long you’ve played.

You’ll want to find this sim and introduce yourself and do friendly interactions until you can be friends!
Stage Four: Outdoor Enthusiast

To finish this aspiration your sim is going to need to maximize their herbalism skill. You do this through identifying plants, reading skill books or by brewing herbal remedies!
If you want to do it without the effort you can always use stats.set_skill_level major_herbalism 10 to cheat to max out the skill instead.
- Sleep for 5 Nights in a Tent
When you’re in Granite falls for vacation you have options to either have your lodging at the camp ground or at a home. For this, you’ll want to have a vacation at the camp ground and bring a tent with you!
If you forgot to bring a tent there is a small building you can click on and choose buy supplies where you can purchase a tent and you can drag it out of your inventory onto the camp ground lot.

All you need to do is spend five nights at this campground while having your sim sleep in a tent each night. You’ll get one of the five points satisfied each morning when your sim wakes up.

- Collect 15 Insects
When you’re walking around in Granite Falls you can often see bugs on the ground or flying around, many of these are collectible! All you need to do to collect insects is to click on them whenever you see them and choose collect insects.

When you do this the insects will end up in your sim’s inventory and you can release them, eat some of them or sell them for money.
Survivalist Reward Trait
When your sim finishes off the sims 4 outdoor enthusiast aspiration they are going to get the survivalist reward trait!
The survivalist trait’s description says “Survivalists are happy roughin’ it and like living off the land. Sleeping under the stars or using camping equipment provides lots of enjoyment.
