How to Win Magic Duels in The Sims 4

If you want to be a strong spellcaster you’ll want to win magic duels in The Sims 4!

These duels are available for magical sims with The Sims 4: Realm of Magic.

Your sims can even get artifacts, ingredients or new spells from doing these duels… as long as they win.

Types of Magic Duels

There are five types of duels for your spellcaster sim to try and each has a different result you’ll experience.

  • Friendly Duel
    • A friendly duel is just that, friendly. It’s like a training duel where neither sim wins anything.
  • Heated Duel
    • A heated duel is pretty intense, you won’t want to do these with sims who you want to be friends with. The sim who loses this duel will leave angry!
  • Duel for Knowledge
  • Duel for Ingredients
    • When a sim wins a duel for ingredients they will get potion ingredients in their inventory when its over.
  • Duel for Artifacts
    • When your sim wins a duel for artifacts they’ll get cool stuff like brooms or wands!

How to Win Magic Duels in The Sims 4

There are a whole bunch of factors that go into your sim’s ability to win magic duels, so you need to understand all of them to win. The first factor is your sim’s spellcaster level which you can see in your sim’s needs panel at the bottom.

A sim with a higher spellcaster rank is going to win more duels because they’re just generally stronger. You also need to pay attention to the rank of the sim you’re targeting!

You never want to duel a sage if you’re trying to win, they are more powerful than most sims so you’ll probably use. You want to duel other spellcasters who are at least one level below you to give you a higher chance to win.

The next thing you need to pay attention to is your sims spellcaster charge. You can see this as a large orb above your sim’s needs in the needs panel. You should only start a duel if this is empty so your sim has maximum power to use and doesn’t risk death.

The next thing to focus on is your sim’s mood and needs! I found that my sims feeling confident was great for winning so you might want a self-assured sim since they get confident more often. Or you can go to a sink and brush your teeth to get confident.

You’ll want to truly avoid bad moods like dazed, sad or tense. Sims aren’t going to win if they’re grumpy! Plus you should make sure that they aren’t tired or hungry, I couldn’t win a duel without food!

The absolute best thing you can do is purchase the master duelist perk, but this isn’t available to your sim until you reach the highest level of spellcaster.

So, it isn’t helpful for a while, but you can win pretty much every duel once you have it!

Winning duels is the best because you can duel for knowledge to learn every spell, duel for ingredients to brew potions and even duel to make other sims angry. It’s so fun! Plus you’ll need to win duels to finish the spellcraft & sorcery aspiration!
