The Sims 4 Spellcraft & Sorcery Aspiration

If you want to be great at casting spells you should play through the sims 4 spellcraft & sorcery aspiration!

This aspiration comes to your game with The Sims 4: Realm of Magic and is magical.

Your sim will do fun things like going to the magic realm, winning duels and learning spells.

Quick Learner Bonus Trait

When your sim starts their life with any of the knowledge aspirations (like the nerd brain aspiration) they’ll be given the quick learner bonus trait. This trait is great because it gives your sim skill boosts to every skill!

Unfortunately there are no skills in this aspiration so its not really useful, but your sim will gain all skills faster!

Best Traits for The Sims 4 Spellcraft & Sorcery Aspiration

When you create a sim you should always think about the traits you give them to make your experience easier.

  • Self-Assured: In this aspiration your sim will need to win duels and being confident is super helpful for that!
  • Outgoing: You’re going to need a good relationship with the sages and being outgoing can be helpful so your sim has fun chatting with them.

Stages of the Aspiration

There are four stages of this aspiration to work through, as you get through it you’ll get satisfaction points for each fun task you complete. You’ll need to become a spellcaster and start learning lots of spells!

Stage One: First Steps

  • Become a Spellcaster

The first thing you need to do is become a spellcaster, of course! There are two ways you can do this. The first way is to create your spellcaster in create-a-sim.

To do this you’ll click on the add a sim button and choose add occult sim and then choose spellcaster. You can then give them whatever look you want and when you start playing this need will be satisfied.

If you didn’t start your sim out as a spellcaster in create-a-sim you can become one through gameplay. First, you’ll need to travel to the magic realm which we’ll discuss next. Once there you’ll want to find one of the three sages that are at the magic HQ.

Once you find a sage you’ll introduce yourself and start building a relationship until you see ask how to use magic. If you have a high enough relationship they’ll let you in on all their secrets!

You’ll get a notification telling you that you need to find 7 magical motes before a spell wears off. These are all around the outside of Magic HQ and there are more than 7 but you only need 7.

A screenshot from The Sims 4 showing the notification you get to collect motes to become a spellcaster

You can click on these shining orbs and choose collect mote and it will go into your sim’s inventory. Then, once you have 7 of them you’ll go back to the same sage and choose turn in motes.

Once you turn them in the sage will turn you into a spellcaster by casting a spell on you and you’ll get a notification telling you it worked!

Throughout this aspiration you’ll need to spend time in the magic realm, and if you aren’t a spellcaster yet you need to go through the portal located in Glimmerbrook. You’ll find this on the left side of the world but you can’t travel straight there, you have to travel close and get your sim to walk over.

Once you find the magic portal you’ll click on it and choose travel to the magic realm and a question card will enter asking you if you want to enter the portal or turn back, enter the portal to get to the magic realm.

When your sim becomes a spellcaster they’ll get a Glimmerstone in their inventory. This allows your sims to click on it and choose travel to the magic realm. There is a cooldown on this item, you can’t travel using it over and over because it needs to recharge.

  • Learn a Spell

Now that your sim is a spellcaster and you’re in the magic realm you need to learn some spells! The easiest way to learn your first few spells is to ask a sage. You’ll be able to ask each sage for a different type of magic. The sage with the red and yellow colour will be able to teach you untamed magic.

The pink sage will be able to teach you mischief magic.

The green sage will be able to teach you practical magic.

However, you’ll need to have a decent relationship with the sage before they’re willing to teach you anything. I found around 30% friendship they would let me but anything before that you’ll get a notification saying they won’t share their knowledge with just anyone.

If you get this notification just work on your friendship for a bit and then try again. When it works you’ll get a notification saying that you’ve discovered a new spell and it will tell you the name of it.

At any time you can click on your sim and choose magic > open spell book and open up the book where you can see all the spells you’ve learned, the ones you haven’t, and the descriptions that tell you what they do.

Stage Two: Learning the Ways

  • Reach Spellcaster Rank 2 (Acolyte)

From now on in the sims 4 spellcraft & sorcery aspiration you’ll need to raise your spellcaster rank. You can see your rank at the bottom of your sim’s needs panel!

A screenshot from The Sims 4 showing the description of how you can increase your spellcaster rank

There are a whole bunch of ways to gain Spellcaster XP to raise your rank and everything you do involving magic will help. The first thing you can do is click on a cauldron and choose experiment or if you’ve learned potion recipes you can brew them to earn more XP.

Another way to gain more XP is to click on your sim and choose magic > practice magic and pick one of the magical categories. This is great because there’s a chance of your sim learning spells from this too!

A screenshot from The Sims 4 showing the options to practice magic

A great way to earn some spellcaster XP is to click on any of the sages and choose ask for magical training. You can do this with other sims who are a higher rank than you too, but it’s more fun to do with sages because they’re super powerful.

You can also do any spells you’ve learned to gain XP as well, but you need to watch your spellcaster charge. You’ll see this in a ball at the top of your needs panel and when its full your sim can get curses, get overcharged and even die if you go too far.

  • Know 3 Different Spells

To learn 3 spells you can ask each of the sages to teach you their type of magic and that’ll do it! If not you can click on your sim and choose magic > practice magic and they can learn spells that way too.

  • Cast a Spell on Another Sim

Now that you’ve started to learn spells you’ll need to use one on another sim. Some of the spells you can use on others include:

  • Deliriate
  • Despario
  • Furio
  • Zip Zap
  • Inferniate
  • Chillio

Once you’ve learned any of these spells you can click on any other sim and choose magic > spells and choose the one you’d like. I chose to use Inferniate and set a sim on fire, oops!

Stage Three: Devilish Dueler

  • Reach Spellcaster Rank 3 (Adept)

To increase your spellcaster ranking you need to gain more spellcaster XP. How do you do that? By doing magic, of course!

Your sim will gain spellcaster XP anytime they do anything related to magic from experimenting on a cauldron to practicing magic alone. Just keep doing spells, learning from sages and dueling with other sims to increase your rank.

Winning duels against other spellcasters is easy, as long as you duel the right person. Don’t duel sages! They are so much stronger than your sim and you will lose until you have a higher rank.

A screenshot from The Sims 4 showing the options for a magic duel

To find duels you’ll click on sims who are spellcasters and choose magic > magic duel and pick one. There are different options you can do:

  • Friendly Duel: A friendly duel is just a duel with no rewards or negatives, these are the boring option but are good because your sim won’t leave angry.
  • Heated Duel: These duels leave the loser angry!
  • Duel for Knowledge: This is my favourite duel to do because if your sim wins they’ll learn new spells!
  • Duel for Artifacts: This is a good duel to do if you haven’t purchased a broom or wand yet, if you win your sim can these items.
  • Duel for Ingredients: These duels will give you ingredients you can use to make potions which is awesome!

There are some smart things you can do to improve your odds of winning duels. The first is to try and make your sim feel confident. You can easily do this by getting them to brush their teeth at a sink!

You’ll also want to make sure that your sims spellcaster charge isn’t too high and their needs are taken care of. Your sim will be more likely to win these duels when they have a higher rank too.

If you’ve already gotten to the 5th rank of being a spellcaster your sim can purchase the master duelist perk which will help make sure your sim wins more often.

  • Know 5 Different Spells

Learning spells is so easy because there are so many ways to do it. You can continue doing the following to learn more spells:

  • Ask Sages to Teach You Their Type of Magic
  • Ask Sages for Magical Training
  • Practice Magic With Your Sim
  • Duel Other Sims for Knowledge

Getting to five spells is easy! You’re probably already there!

Stage Four: Wand-erful Spellcaster

  • Reach Spellcaster Rank 5 (Virtuoso)

Getting to the fifth rank of being a spellcaster is going to take you a while, seriously. Your sim just needs to keep doing more magic including dueling other sims, asking sages for magical training and performing spells.

Literally anything you do that’s magic will help to increase your rank.

  • Know 10 Different Spells

At this point you’ve learned at least 5 spells, learning the other five is easy. Do things like dueling for knowledge, asking sages to teach you magic and practicing magic to learn more spells.

At any time you can click on your sim and choose magic > open spell book to see how many spells you’ve learned thus far and what they do!

Slinger of Spells Reward Trait

When your sim finishes the sims 4 spellcraft & sorcery aspiration they are going to get the slinger of spells reward trait. This trait’s description says “As a slinger of spells your sim generates much less charge when casting spells.”

A screenshot from The Sims 4 showing the slinger of spells reward trait that you get from the spellcraft & sorcery aspiration

Slinger of Spells is a great reward trait because you can keep doing spells with less worrying about overcharging your sims and having them die!
