Another factor into your sim’s quality is their mood when they make the item. The ideal mood for knitting is inspired so being in an inspired mood will produce higher quality items.
Finally, you want to make sure that your sim has some good traits. A great option is perfectionist because these sims craft slower but will always output higher quality.
You can even add something like the creative visionary reward store trait to maximize this. It says in the description its for writing and painting but I’ve found it impacts the quality of all my creative outputs.
If you use the creative visionary and perfectionist trait, max out the skill and are feeling inspired, your chance of being legendary increases substantially!
