This aspiration has your sims striving to create high-quality books to sell to publishers for royalties.
Best selling author is one of my favourite aspirations because publishing books is a great way to earn money.
Muser Bonus Trait
When you start your sim off with a creative aspiration you’ll get the muser bonus trait. It’s description reads “Musers get better boosts to their skills when they’re inspired.”
This is great because inspired is already the ideal mood for the writing skill so you’re going to get even more skill gains.
Best Traits for the Sims 4 Bestselling Author Aspiration
When you create a sim you need to think about their aspiration and the traits that can help them! Here’s some great traits for this aspiration:
- Creative: Sims who are creative will get random inspired moodlets and that’s the best mood for the writing skill!
- Perfectionist: Perfectionist sims spend slightly more time on their work, but their work comes out higher quality which is super helpful for when you want to start doing best selling books.
- Muser: This is the bonus trait you get when you choose a creative aspiration and it gives skill books when your sim is feeling inspired.
You can even go further and add some great lot traits to your sim’s household. Here’s some good ones for the sims 4 best selling author aspiration:
- Fast Internet: The fast internet lot trait is great because it gives skill increases to any computer based skills like writing and programming.
- Sunny Aspect: This trait comes with The Sims 4: City Living and gives your sim a moodlet everyday at 6PM. This moodlet will be either inspired, energized, or happy and you can use that inspired moodlet to your advantage.
Stages of the Aspiration
There are four stages of the sims 4 best selling author aspiration to play through. As you go through you’ll get different tasks to complete and when you do your sim will get some satisfaction points that they can spend in the reward store.
Stage One: Fledge-Linguist
Your very first task for the sims 4 best selling author aspiration is to write two books. To do this you should click on a computer and find write > write genre book > children’s book.
The only option you’ll have at first is a children’s book! You will satisfy this after your sim finishes the book and its in their inventory, you’ll get a notification when they complete the book too.
- Write for 1 Hour While Inspired
The next thing you need to do is write for an hour while your sim is feeling inspired. This is easy, get your sim inspired then click to write a book and it’ll satisfy this need. The easiest way to get a sim to feel inspired is to take a thoughtful shower.

- Cloud Gazing
- Browsing Art on a Computer
Stage Two: Competent Wordsmith
- Achieve Level 4 Writing Skill
The next thing you need to do for this aspiration is get to level 4 of the writing skill. Since you’ve already been writing books your sim will be well on their way to completing this. Just keep writing books and your sim will get to level four in no time.
- Have Written for 15 Total Hours
For this stage you’ll also need to have written for 15 total hours. Thankfully, the time you spent writing your first two books counts too so you’ll already be a few hours into this. Since the next part is to write more books, you’ll get this super easily by working on good books.
- Write 5 Good Books
The final thing for this stage of the sims 4 best selling author aspiration is to write 5 good books. Everything you craft in the game has a quality system that includes poor, normal, good, excellent, and more. You’re striving for anything better than normal to satisfy this.
There are a few factors that impact your book’s quality including your sim’s level in the writing skill, their mood when they wrote the book and the traits your sim has that can impact quality.
Pro Tip: Buy the creative visionary trait from the reward store to have a higher chance of getting high quality crafted items.
Stage Three: Novelest Novelist
- Achieve Level 6 Writing Skill
Since this aspiration’s levels are all about writing and publishing books, you’ll definitely get to level 6 of the writing skill in no time. Don’t worry too much about this one, doing the others will get this done naturally.
The next thing you need to do for this aspiration is to publish ten books. Ideally you wouldn’t have published any of the books you’ve written so far and just left them in your inventory. Why?
Well, as you gain the writing skill your sim will unlock new ways to publish books. At first you can just self-publish but this is the worst choice because you’ll earn the lowest amount of royalties.
The best option is unlocked at level 9 of the skill and that’s submit book copy to literary digest. However, you can only do this once a week.
Most of your books are going to be published with the sell to publisher option which will get you more royalties than self-publishing which is important for the last part of this aspiration.
All you need to do to complete this part of the aspiration is finish 10 books on the computer. When they’re done you can go over to the mailbox and choose sell to publisher (or the other options) and choose the book you want to publish and it’ll count toward this.
- Write 5 Excellent Books
Writing excellent books works the same as trying to write good books. The factors you need to pay attention to are:
- Your sim’s mood when they’re writing the book
- Your sim’s needs when they’re writing the book
- The traits your sims have that can help (i.e., creative visionary)
- The lot traits on your sim’s house
Keep your sims in a good mood, make sure that they are feeling inspired when writing and make sure to purchase that creative visionary trait from the reward store.
Stage Four: Bestselling Author
- Achieve Level 10 Writing Skill
Since you’re working on books all the time to complete the other parts of this aspiration, this is easy. Just always take the time to write books that you can publish. Don’t waste your sim’s time doing the practice writing interaction.
The next thing you need to do is complete 3 bestsellers. This is a quality ranking so we have already discussed the good and excellent quality books, this is just a step up.
The first thing you should do is definitely purchase the creative visionary reward trait. This costs 2,000 satisfaction points and is worth every single point.
Cheaters Tip: If you want to cheat this you can use sims.give_satisfaction_points 2000 to get the right amount of points and go buy it!
To write these bestselling books you can make sure of a few things:
- Your sim feels inspired when writing
- Your sim’s needs are well taken care of
- Your sim has a maxed out writing skill
If you focus on these things and get that reward trait, you’ll be good to go after a few written books.
Since you’re trying to earn 25,000 simoleons you should writing a lot of books. Every single book you write, you should publish. Even if they are low-quality because they will bring in some money.
Ideally, all your books will be of excellent of higher quality because those will bring in the most money. You’ll get your royalty payments each day at 10AM so this will take a few days to weeks depending on how many books you’ve published and their quality.
The further away from the day you published them, the less money they are gonna be earning each day so you’ll want to continue publishing new books as often as possible.
Poetic Reward Trait
When your sim finishes the sims 4 best selling author aspiration they’ll get the poetic reward trait. This has a description that reads “Poetic sims can capture life itself in a book, and wield it to bring back someone they’ve lost.”
This reward trait gives your sims the new ability to write the book of life.
This allows your sims to write this book and essentially bind it to a sim they know by clicking capture epic saga.
If that sim happens to die they aren’t gone forever. If their ghost reads their personal book of life they can come back to life!
