Another way your sim can gain the skill is to click on a bookcase and choose look up historical deaths.
You can also go to a computer and go to write and choose to write obituaries and your sim will gain the sims 4 thanatology skill at the same time they will gain the writing skill.
If you want to get your sims to gain this skill without active effort on your part there are books you sims can read. There are three thanatology skill books to choose from:
- Thanatology Vol 1: Mortal Mortality
- Thanatology Vol 2: Handbook for the Recently Expired
- Thanatology Vol 3: Piercing The Veil
Your sim needs to read the first volume to get to level four of the sims 4 thanatology skill. Then, volume two to get to level seven and finish the skill with volume three.

Want a different level of the skill? Change the 5 at the end to a number between 1 and 4.
Levels of The Sims 4 Thanatology Skill
Thanatology is considered a minor skill so there are only five levels for your sims to gain. As they gain them they’ll get new unlocks and abilities that are so fun to play around with!

| Level 5 | Your sim casts off their mortal coil! Figuratively, that is. Understanding the other side allows your sim to capture the essence of life and boil it down to a more useful concoction. With afterlife delights and the ability to toy with death, your sim can live on and live after more comfortably. |
Improving The Skill With DLC
You are able to add so many fun things to the game with DLC and sometimes it even impacts skills that come with different packs!
Discover University
If you have The Sims 4: Discover University installed in your game your sims are able to take skill classes. This means that your sim can go to their phone (or the University campus buildings) and take a thanatology class to gain the skill.
These skill classes are going to cost your sim ยง250 and some time. They’ll leave with a higher sims 4 thanatology skill than before, woot!
