The Sims 4 Rock Climbing Skill Guide
There are three fun mountain skills in Snowy Escape and the sims 4 rock climbing skill is a really fun one to play around with.
Your sims will want a high level of this skill before journeying too high on the mountain, just to make sure they stay alive!
What is Rock Climbing Good For?
The sims 4 rock climbing skill is an important one to gain if you want your sims to try to climb Mt Komorebi’s summit. This climb is for sims who are prepared and you shouldn’t just try and do it without the skill.
Sims who go and try this without being prepared do have a chance of death, so gaining this skill is a must!
How to Gain The Sims 4 Rock Climbing Skill
Before you start rock climbing out on the mountain you’ll want to get prepared by purchasing your sim some adventure gear. You can find this under the order > adventure gear section on the computer.
Climbing gear is great because it increases your chance of having successful climbs so your sims have less of a chance of injury or death.
You’ll then want to travel to the mountain which you can do by either taking a vacation to one of the vacation lots next to it, or going to the Sutefani Onsen Bathhouse and going to the mountain from there.
When facing the mountain from the bath house you’ll go far left until you find this small climbing wall. You’ll then want to choose to inspect climbing wall conditions so you can see the likelihood of your sim succeeding their climb.
You can then choose to do a practice climbing session or get your sims to just go up one time. You’ll probably fail in the early stages, but it gets better with time. It’s smart to do things like equipping your climbing gear and making sure your sim’s needs are taken care of before climbing all day.
When you get further along in the skill you can start climbing at the larger rock climbing wall that’s located at the higher parts of the mountain. You can get there by taking the ski-lift!
Eventually, with a high level skill your sims can participate in a Mountain Climb Excursion to reach the peak of Mount Komorebi, which we’ll chat about later.
The best part about gaining this skill is that most of the time your sim will gain the fitness skill at the same time. This means you get to double dip and have better skill gains!
If you want to gain the rock climbing skill without climbing any rocks you have the option to purchase and read skill books instead. There are three books to read for rock climbing:
- Rock Climbing Vol 1: Get a Grip
- Rock Climbing Vol 2: Getting Boulder
- Rock Climbing Vol 3: Looking Down on Everyone
With skill books you read volume 1 for level 1 to 4. Then, you want to read volume 2 for level 4 to 7 and volume 3 to finish the skill gains.
Ideal Mood for Rock Climbing
Did you know that every skill in The Sims 4 has an ideal mood that will makes sims gain the skill faster? Well, for rock climbing your sims are going to want to have the focused emotion to gain the skill quickly.
An easy way to get focused is to ponder moves on a chess board!
Best Traits for Rock Climbing
The traits you give your sims can have a huge impact on the rate at which they gain skills and these are great traits to choose for a sim who wants to get into rock climbing:
- Genius: Since focused is the best mood for rock climbing, the genius trait is great. Genius sims get random focused moodlets more often.
- Practice Makes Perfect: This is a fun trait that starts your sims gaining the skill slower but will gain it faster later on. Plus, it gives random focused moodlets!
- Loves The Outdoors: A lot of your sim’s rock climbing experiences will happen outdoors, and you want them to be happy and enjoy this, right?
You should also consider the lot traits that your sim’s household has! They can have a big impact on skill gains:
- Study Spot: This comes with Discover University and gives great improvements to all skill gains
How to Cheat The Sims 4 Rock Climbing Skill
If you don’t feel like gaining this skill on your own you have the option to go ahead and cheat the sims 4 rock climbing skill instead. You’ll need to know stats.set_skill_level major_rockclimbing 10 to max out this skill.
If you want a different level of the skill you’ll just swap out the 10 at the end of the cheat for a number between 1 and 9.
Levels of the Sims 4 Rock Climbing Skill
There are ten levels of the rock climbing skill for your sims to gain. As you gain the skill your sim will get better and unlock new abilities!

| Level 1 | Your sim’s new skill in rock climbing allows them to climb up and down small climbing wells, as well as equip and remove climbing gear. |
| Level 2 | Your sim is now skilled enough to climb the small climbing wall courageously, as well as build skill by climbing up and down and trying a breaking point climbing session. They have also unlocked new snow goggles to wear. |
| Level 3 | Your sim can now do pre-climb stretching in addition to attempting climb on medium height climbing routes. |
| Level 4 | Your sim can chalk hands to improve their chance of success, as well as more ways to climb the medium height climbing routes. |
| Level 5 | Your sim has unlocked the climbing suit to wear as well as the ability to try a breaking point climbing session on the medium height climbing routes. |
| Level 6 | Your sim can now push themselves by attempting a climb on the tallest climbing route, as well as chat to other sims about the Beta of a Route. |
| Level 7 | Your sim can self-craft energy bars to help them on long mountain excursions as well as climb cautiously on the tallest climbing route. |
| Level 8 | Your sim now has access to more tall climbing route actions. |
| Level 9 | Your sim is now able to tackle the most technical climbs by climbing courageously on the tallest climbing route as well as self-crafting useful protein bars. |
| Level 10 | Your sim has reached the pinnacle of rock climbing and can coach rock climbing to other sims and offer tips. |
Taking Care of Your Gear
Your gear isn’t going to last forever. You’ll need to care for it once in a while! You can hover over the gear in your sim’s inventory to see its current state and it’ll start as great.
Eventually you’ll either need to repair or replace your gear to have it have the same effect on your sim on the mountain!
Doing an Excursion
When your sim gets good at rock climbing they may want to do a Rock Climbing Excursion to get to the top of the mountain. To do this you’ll need at least two sims who have a decent sims 4 rock climbing skill and you’ll want to go to your sim’s phone and plan a social event.
These events are interesting, you’ll start by climbing to the top of the medium height wall that’s right above the ski-lift and get your entire group to gather at the top of it and choose to move on to the next stage. You’ll want to do as many of the tasks assigned as possible to get as many points as possible.
Some of the tasks you may see include:
- Getting a sim to rest for 1 hour
- Getting a sim to eat something
- Getting a sim to check the conditions on a wall
- Getting a sim to climb courageously
You’ll find both a tent and a bush that sims can rest in, and they can use the bathroom inside that bush. You’ll just want your sims to gather around the trail map marker at the top of each climbing wall to move on to the next section.
After you get through a couple levels you’ll reach the summit and the sims will start feeling so confident.
Whatever sim was the excursion leader is going to receive the expert mountaineer reward trait after a successful excursion. This trait will have them do better at rock climbing and also give them higher success in other activities like skiing and snowboarding.
Gaining The Sims 4 Rock Climbing Skill With DLC
There is so much fun DLC to play around with and some packs add new abilities to skills you may not even know about!
The Sims 4: Fitness Stuff
Well before we got snowy escape to add to our games we got the addition of The Sims 4: Fitness Stuff which adds a bunch of new workout equipment. The most interesting piece we got is the Top Hitz Rock Climbing Wall which originally only gave sims the fitness skill. If you have Snowy Escape your sims can earn the rock climbing skill too!
The Sims 4: Discover University
With The Sims 4: Discover University you unlock the ability to take skill classes in pretty much every topic in the game. This means your sims can even take a rock climbing skill class and earn some of the skill but you do have to pay 250 simoleons!
