The Sims 4 Rocket Science Skill Guide

There are so many skills to play with and the sims 4 rocket science skill is such a fun one.

The only time I think about rocket science IRL is if someone says “it’s not rocket science” about something random.

So, of course, I want to see what rocket science can do for me in a virtual world!

What is Rocket Science Good For?

Rocket science is one of those random skills that you play with once in a while but sims aren’t going to gain this one randomly.

This skill is great for exploring space to get goodies like space rockets. Plus, if you have The Sims 4: Get to Work installed you can add a Wormhole Generator and travel to the secret world of Planet Sixam to visit with aliens and find rare collectibles.

You’ll also need to have this skill if you want to join the astronaut career in the game!

How to Gain The Rocket Science Skill

There are two ways your sims can gain the rocket science skill. The first way, is of course, to do rocket science! You can do this by purchasing the Steampunk Flyamajig rocket ship from the buy catalog which will set you back §5,000 and money each time you want to build or upgrade it.

Gamer Tip: You can ask another sim to help you build the rocket to make it go by faster!

Your sim will gain the skill any time they are working on the rocket and since there are so many upgrades to do you’ll have lots of time to gain it. To start you’ll need to actually build the rocket, that 5,000 simoleons only gave your sims the opportunity to be able to build a rocket.

Once it’s fully built you can explore space, add upgrades or just stare at your beautiful work!

You can also gain the skill by reading skill books that you can buy from clicking on bookcases in the game. You’ll find three books to gain the skill:

  • Rocket Science Vol 1: So You Want To Be A Rocket Scientist
  • Rocket Science Vol 2: The Nuts and Bolts of Constructing Your Spacecraft
  • Rocket Science Vol 3: Counting Down to Launch
A screenshot from the sims 4 showing the rocket science skill books you can read

You’ll be able to read these books and as you gain the skill you’ll move up in volumes until you max the skill. This is a great way to gain the skill without having to build a rocket if you want to join the career but don’t have a huge yard for a rocket ship.

Pro Tip: Add the Peace and Quiet lot trait to your sim’s lot to have a better experience reading, it makes your sims gain skills faster from reading books.

Best Mood to Practice Rocket Science

Every skill in The Sims 4 has an ideal emotion that will help you gain the skill more quickly. This is great because your sim’s emotions have such a big impact on their mood.

The ideal emotion for rocket science is focused and there are a bunch of ways to get focused. You can ponder moves on a chess board, use a microscope, use an overclocked computer and more.

Best Traits for Rocket Science

When you choose traits for your sims you need to consider what they’re going to do with their life and a sim who wants to be into rocket science needs traits like these:

  • Genius: This trait is great because genius sims will get random focused moodlets that boost skill building.
  • Loves the Outdoors: This isn’t a trait most people would think about but a sim in rocket science needs to spend tons of time on their rocket outside and they’ll get happy moodlets that boost focused when outdoors.

There are also lot traits that you can add to your sim’s house that can be super helpful in skill gain. You can’t find this menu in the top left corner when you’re in build mode.

The best one for learning rocket science is science lair which has a description that reads “The secluded vibe means there’s little to distract great minds from the study of Logic or Rocket Science”.

This lot trait is going to give your sims a slight boost in skill gain so just imagine having a focused moodlet and this lot trait!

How to Cheat The Rocket Science Skill

Cheating skills is valid and is so easy to do. To cheat the rocket science skill you just need to know stats.set_skill_level Major_rocketscience 10 to max out the skill.

If you want a different level simply change the 10 to a different number. For example, stats.set_skill_level Major_rocketscience 3 will give your sim level 3 of the skill.

Types of Rocket Ships Available

Since you want a rocket ship to earn this skill (unless you’re boring and just want to read books) you’ll need a space ship. Unfortunately you can only get one type unless you get to the top of a branch of the Astronaut Career.

A screenshot from the sims 4 showing the different rocket ships your sims can get

There are three types of rocket ships that you can get from the build catalog:

  • Steampunk Flyamajig §5,000
    • Available for All Sims
    • Artfully weathered bronze panels and whizz-bang gaslights conceal a sleek modern rocketship with the most up-to-date technology on the inside. It’s only what’s on the outside that counts, right?”
  • Retro Rocketship §10,000
    • Unlocked at Level 10 of the Interstellar Smuggler Branch of the Astronaut Career
    • “During the war, rockets were made by hands and kids rocketed to school both ways uphill! In Snow! Let this museum-quality relic be a reminder of just how easy you astronauts have it today.”
  • Apollo Rocketship §8,750
    • Unlocked at Level 10 of the Space Ranger Branch of the Astronaut Career
    • Machine-crafted from carbon-fiber sheathing forged from minerals found in space geodes, this space vehicle promises the smoothest, most luxurious ride to interplanetary adventure.”

Travelling to Space

When your sim finishes a rocket ship you can click on it and choose to explore space, this is where the fun happens. Your sims will get into the rocket and you’ll get choice cards where you get to make decisions that impact what happens to your sims.

If you have a good time and answer well, you can come back with items like Dead Blue Slugs, Geodes and more. If you have a bad time and answer wrong, your sim can lose money, crash their rocket and more.

Rocket Ship Upgrades

The smartest thing you can do after crafting your space ship is starting to upgrade it. Each upgrade will give you interesting benefits but will cost you a lot of money, so be prepared to spend.

There are seven options for upgrading your space ship which include:

  1. Upgrade Landing Stabilizers
    • Available Immediately
    • “Assists with successful rocket ship landings”
  2. Expand Fuel Storage Tank
    • Unlocked at Level 3
    • “With more fuel comes the ability to explore further into the depths of space”
  3. Improve Maneuvering Thrusters
    • Unlocked at Level 5
    • “An essential upgrade for exploring and navigating new frontiers”
  4. Expand Cargo Bay
    • Unlocked at Level 6
    • More room to bring valuable cargo back to earth”
  5. Ion Cannon Defense System
    • Unlocked at Level 7
    • “An essential upgrade for those worried about hostile encounters in space”
  6. Install Landing Computer
    • Unlocked at Level 9
    • Extra assistance for successful rocket ship landings”
  7. Wormhole Generator
    • Requires Get to Work
    • Unlocked at Level 10
    • Lets you travel to the secret planet Sixam

You really don’t want your sim to crash on landing or destroy their ship in space because you’ll have to start all over and spend the time and money over and over again.

This means you really want to upgrade anything that will protect you including the landing computer and landing stabilizers.

Bringing Back Space Goodies

There are a whole bunch of items your sims can bring back from space that are collectibles in the game. These include space rocks and space prints that you can keep as decor or decide to sell for money.

Rocket Science Mentorship

When a sim maxes the rocket science skill they can start mentoring other sims in the skill. The mentee sim will get skill gains during this time which is awesome.

You just need another sim to start working on the rocket and the sim with the maxed skill can mentor them.

If you have Business & Hobbies installed you have the option to mentor for money. This is an insanely easy way to make an income. You can invite any sim to your lot and click on them and choose the mentoring category and pick offer paid rocket science mentoring.

This is going to pay you §430 per hour and will pay out when you stop mentoring. If you do this for a five hour period you can make a few thousand simoleons which is awesome!

Making Rocket Science Better With DLC

When you start adding DLC to your game you’ll find fun new ways to gain skills and cool things to explore!

Get to Work

One of the best additions with The Sims 4: Get to Work is Planet Sixam which you can only access through the sims 4 rocket science skill. To get your sims to Sixam you need to install the wormhole generator on your sim’s rocket ship, this doesn’t unlock until later levels of the skill!

Once you have this installed you’ll be able to choose travel through wormhole and your sim will have the chance to travel to the Planet Sixam!

In Sixam your sims will find aliens, fun geodes, plants like a Fang Flower that are Sixam exclusive and more!

Parenthood

Every once in a while when you have The Sims 4: Parenthood installed your sims will come home from school with school projects. If an adult assists with these projects you can actually see the adult gaining skills that correspond to the specific project!

If your sim’s kid comes home with the solar system or air pressure rocketry projects (you can also find these in build mode) then your sim can gain the rocket science skill.

Discover University

There are two ways your sims can earn the sims 4 rocket science skill if you have The Sims 4: Discover University installed. The first is that your sims can take a skill class at the University for 250 simoleons and your sim will leave that class with more of the skill than they entered with.

The other way your sim can gain the skill is by using a research archive machine to research rocket discoveries. However, this isn’t an option right away, you’ll need a few levels of the research & debate skill first.

Get Famous

If you have The Sims 4: Get Famous installed in your game, your sims can gain fame by exploring space! This is fun because who wouldn’t want to be a famous astronaut?
