What is Comedy Good For?
Comedy is great for building relationships between sims!
This is because you will be better at comedy interactions with a high comedy skill and that can make friends for your sims.
You can also use the comedy skill for the entertainer career where you can join the comedian branch and spend your sim’s life making money through being funny!
Your sims have the option to tell jokes for tips to earn a bit of money too!
How to Gain The Sims 4 Comedy Skill
There are a few ways your sim can gain the comedy skill, starting with purchasing skill books that your sims can read to get the skill. You’ll need to purchase three books and move up in the book ranks as you gain the skill, the books are:
- Comedy Vol 1: Get the Jokes
- Comedy Vol 2: Grab The Mic
- Comedy Vol 3: Show Them the Pain
The next way you can gain the comedy skill is by telling jokes to sims that you’re chatting with.
As you improve your skill you’ll unlock new jokes and get better at them too, making it easier for you to tell successful jokes. It also helps to have the charisma skill because charismatic sims are better at successful socialization.
Your sims can purchase a microphone from the build/buy catalog that you can place in your home and practice jokes on. This is the easiest way to gain this skill without having your sims just sit and be boring.
The next way you can earn the skill is by clicking on a computer and choosing write jokes. Your sims will sit on the computer for a while and gain the skill pretty quick.
At level 3 of the skill your sims are going to unlock the ability to start composing their own routines. You’ll be able to compose short, medium and long routines and your sims are able to perform these for tips!
Best Mood to Practice Comedy
The big selling point of The Sims 4 was the mood system and how your sims emotions can effect their behaviours. This means that there is an ideal mood for gaining different skills and that applies to comedy too.
The ideal mood for gaining this skill is playful which makes sense to me! You can get your sims to feel playful in a few ways:
- Eat Silly Gummy Bear Pancakes
- Have a Bubble Bath
- Watch Comedy Shows
Just be careful, sims can die from hysteria if they get too playful and don’t calm down!
Best Traits for Funny Sims
With every skill there are certain traits you may want to add to your game to make it easier for your sims to gain the skill and there are a few that work well for comedy:
- Outgoing: Sims who want to gain the comedy skill are going to want to tell jokes and you’ll seriously want them to want to spend time with other sims, so being outgoing is great.
- Goofball: The goofball trait is great because these sims are going to be feeling playful more often which is the ideal mood for this skill and will help you gain it more quickly.
You should also consider the lot traits your give your sim’s household and this trait can be helpful for comedy:
- Convivial: This lot trait makes it easier and faster to practice comedy
How to Cheat The Sims 4 Comedy Skill
Cheating skills is my favourite thing because most of the time I want to cause chaos in my game, not grind through skills. You can cheat the comedy skill by using stats.set_skill_level Major_Comedy 10 to max the skill.
If you want a different level of the skill you just change out the 10 to whatever level of the skill you want from 1 to 10.

| Level 10 | Your sim is so skilled that they can now perform improvised routines at a microphone. |
Benefits of Gaining This Skill
There are benefits to gaining each skill in the game that are different depending on the skill. I’m obsessed with the comedy skill for a couple fun reasons.
1. New Interactions
I’m always looking for new interactions because boring conversations are the worst, so getting some fun new ones is great. Some of the interactions you’ll get with this skill include:
- Tell Knock Knock Jokes
- Joke About Fashion
- Tell a Crowd Pleasing Story
2. Earning Money
There are a couple ways you can earn money with the comedy skill and I love money for my sims! The first way you can earn an income is by writing comedy books which you unlock at level 7 of the skill.
When you write books you are able to license these books and start getting royalties on them every single day. Once a book is done you can publish it through the mailbox and your sim will receive royalties for it each day at 10 AM!
You can also earn income through tips when you’re performing. The amount of tips you earn depend on how long the performance is and the quality of your sim’s skill. You can only get tips when performing not when practicing!
Sims will come up to you and give random tips, I got a lot of 50 simoleon tips which is awesome but this isn’t a great way to make money.
3. Hysterical Death Parties
I’m obsessed with all the weird ways sims can die and the hysterical death is so funny to me. You can invite a bunch of sims over to your home and start performing a routine and if your skill is high enough you have the opportunity to make sims feel playful and sims can just start dropping if they are feeling very playful.
You can even make this worse by adding playful art work that a sim painted or playful lamps.
Sims 4 Comedy Skill Mentorship
When a sim gets to the top of the comedy skill they are going to unlock the ability to mentor other people in the skill. You can do this through having another sim practice jokes on a microphone and then when controlling your funny sim you can click on them and choose to mentor.
If you have The Sims 4: Business & Hobbies installed in your game, you can even mentor for money which is awesome. A sim with level 5 of comedy can earn §80 per hour and a maxed out sims 4 comedy skill will get them §430 simoleons per hour.
Gaining The Sims 4 Comedy Skill With DLC
There are fun ways to gain every skill with DLC packs, with some having tons of packs that work and some having just one or two!
Discover University
There are three ways for your sims to earn skills in Discover University, which is awesome! I love having new ways to earn skills.
The first way you can gain the sims 4 comedy skill is by going to a research archive machine and researching comedy in culture.
Your sims will gain the comedy skill and the research & debate skill at the same time which is incredible.
The next way you can gain the comedy skill is by heading over to either University campus and finding the skill class buildings which you can see in the image below.
You’ll pay §250 for a comedy skill class, which is pricey but worth it if you don’t want to just write jokes all the time.
The final way you can gain this skill is by taking a comedy elective while pursuing a degree. The name of the elective you’ll look for is Intro to Comedy: Life or Art!
