How to Get Death by Mold in The Sims 4
There are some weird death types in the sims but the sims 4 death by mold is one of the weirdest.
This death comes with The Sims 4: For Rent and requires you to have the mold lot challenge!
How to Get Death by Mold in The Sims 4
In order to experience death by mold you’ll need to have the mold lot challenge active on the lot. You can add this in build mode or move into a home like the 11C Sungai Point rental lot that already has it.

To get mold to start growing you’ll want to do things like:
- Keep plumbing items dirty (i.e., sinks, toilets, showers and bath tubs)
- Let your garbage overflow
- Leave puddles on the ground
After a while you’ll see an Allergenic Mold Pile on the ground and your sim will get a +3 Dazed Moodlet called Sporeosis that will happen any time they’re inside their house.

If you leave this pile the mold will start to spread and eventually you’ll get a toxic mold pile and a notification saying “A wild toxic mold pile has just appeared on your lot! Letting it fester could result in dire consequences for your sims!”

Your sims will now start to go through the stages where they’ll start with mild moldinitis where they’ll get an uncomfortable moodlet.

The next stage is severe moldinitis where your sim will get a +3 dazed moodlet. Your sim will also start to show physical symptoms!

The final stage is deadly moldinitis where they’ll get a +99 uncomfortable moodlet and this is where there isn’t much time left to save them. If you want to save them you can try and click on mold and do a mold-b-gone bomb and hope it works!

If you do nothing you’ll get that purple notification that says “The fungus is among us… especially for Your Sim, who is becoming one with the mold.”

Your sim will have mushrooms and mold spores growing all over their body as they slowly fall to their knees and eventually fall onto the ground to wait for The Grim Reaper!

How to Avoid Death by Mold
There are ways to live in a mold filled house without dying, you just need to know how to mitigate the problem! You can do that by keeping your house clean and getting rid of any mold that grows.
Keep The House Clean
A dirty house is more likely to have mold spread quickly, so you need to keep your house as clean as possible. The two factors to focus on are dirty plumbing items (i.e., sinks, toilets and showers) and garbage piling up.
You’ll want to have a sim clean their showers and sinks and toilets as soon as they get dirty and make sure to keep taking out your garbage before it overflows.
You’ll also want to avoid any puddles from sticking around, because these can grow mold!
Clean Up Mold Spots Before They Grow
The mold piles start as allergenic mold piles that will make your sims feel dazed. You’ll want to get rid of these before it starts growing into toxic mold!

You have three options for this which all have different impacts on your sim:
- Clean Allergenic Mold Pile
- Destroy Allergenic Mold Pile With Fire
- Deploy Mold-B-Gone Bomb (§750)

When you clean an allergenic mold pile your sim will change their outfit, which is hilarious. They’ll be wearing some goggles and a mask. However, beware if you have 3D eyelashes installed lol. They’ll clean the pile up with a sponge and spray bottle and it will disappear completely.

Destroying the mold pile with fire is a fun one because your sim will literally walk up to the mold pile and throw a match down and a fire will set immediately. Be careful, you can burn down your house this way! Install an alarm first.

The easiest one is to use the mold-b-gone bomb but it costs a whopping §750 which isn’t always an option. When you use this the sim will change into the same outfit and unleash a chemical bomb that will make all mold leave. The sim can even get a +2 Happy moodlet called Mold-Free Home.

Death by Mold Ghost
When your sim is a ghost they’ll often show characteristics that are connected to how they died. For the death by mold ghost you can zoom in close to them and actually see mold spores growing inside of their chest, ew!

As a ghost the sim will have the death by mold trait which has a description that reads “This sim is the embodiment, or rather “disembodiment” of fungi after succumbing to mold. Some say they’ve absorbed moldy powers, but will they use it for good?”

This ghost some fun things they can do. For one, they can actually click on plants and choose blow fertilizing spores to fertilize crops with their special mold, once again, ew! This can increase the plants quality by one level, which is so helpful.

If you have your ghost click on grass outdoors they can use the create fungal overgrowth interaction to spawn mushroom plants. They can even increase their ethereal bonding (social) need by confiding in their mushroom plants.

Another thing you can do with a mold ghost is click on food that’s been cooked and choose to spoil it.

Another thing they can do is click on the ground and choose to spread mold which will causes a mold pile to appear and if left there it can lead to other sims dying from mold.

When you use the mold abilities your ghost will lose some of their otherworldly slumber need, so be careful, it may make them pass out!

A mold ghost will actually hate seeing other sims eat mushrooms and can get angry from doing this, which is hilarious!
