This competition from The Sims 4: Cottage Living is a fun one where you can grow tons of giant crops and enter the best one!

How to Grow Oversized Crops

To grow an oversized crop you’ll need to purchase a garden patch. There are two versions, one with mounds and one that’s flat.

You can click on this item and choose purchase oversized crop seeds and purchase either aubergine, lettuce, mushroom, pumpkin or watermelon.

This will grow nine individual plants, and if you just water them and do nothing else, it will stay as nine plants. However, if you care for them and fertilize them you can have them become giant.

You’ll click on that same garden patch and choose purchase oversized crop fertilizers and you can choose between the options.

To make these plants become huge you’ll need to fertilize these every single day. So, this can get annoying and expensive but it’ll be worth it! The best fertilizer is a super vitality fertilizer which you can’t just buy, you can get it easily from cleaning an animal shed or a chicken coop though.

You’ll do all the regular things like weeding, watering and spraying for bugs. However, you’ll also have interactions like encourage crop growth that you can do often to encourage the plants to grow.

How to Enter The Oversized Crop Competition

To enter this competition your sim will need to bring their crop in their inventory to The Finchwick Oversized Crop Fair. This fair happens every few weeks on Saturday between 3:30PM and 9:30PM. The judging won’t happen until after 10, so be prepared for a long day.

Before you head to the competition you’ll want to make sure that you’ve placed your biggest crop in your sim’s inventory so you can enter the competition.

When you arrive at the oversized crop fair you’ll find these large square pedestals in the middle of the area. You’ll click on one of those and choose submit entry and a menu will open where you can choose the specific plant you want to enter.

Now all you need to do is wait for the judging to happen!

Hack for Winning: If you have multiple sims in your household you can have each of them submit an entry! This gives you multiple chances to win and the village fair ribbons collection is a household collection so you can work toward the goal as a family.

How to Win The Oversized Crop Competition in The Sims 4

The key to winning this competition is making sure that you have your plant grow as long as it can. With oversized plants they go from nine plants to four plants to a single crop. You need to care for the plant as well as you can until it is fully grown by itself.

There are a few things you can do to make these plants grow bigger and better. The first is the encourage crop growth interaction that usually appears twice in the growing time of an oversized plant.

The second thing you need to do is make sure that your plant is always watered, weeded and always fertilized. You can purchase fertilizer by clicking on the oversized crop mounds but the best one you can use is the Super Vitality Fertilizer.

I’ve only ever gotten this fertilizer from gameplay including:

• Cleaning a chicken coop
• Cleaning an animal shed
• Winning at The Finchwick Fair
• Completing Errands

You’ll click on one of the plants and you can choose to fertilize all plants and it will do all the ones in an area at once which is awesome.

To make sure your plants are always fertilized you can hover over your plants to see their current fertilizer levels. Plus, they have a certain sparkle look to them when they are fertilized.

Once the plant is done growing it will have the option to harvest on it. That’s when you can’t grow it any further! Harvest it and get it in your sim’s inventory and grow multiple so you can enter the biggest one.

Being Judged at the Fair

After you’ve submitted your entry you can go ahead and wait for the mayor to judge your entry. If you’re bored you may want to try and bribe the judge which will cost 250 simoleons and gives you a chance of winning but also a chance of it backfiring.

You’ll wait until the entire event is over to get the results (like, everything disappears before it happens) and you’ll get a notification called Finchwick Fair Competition Result which will show you how your sim did.

When my sim won first place they were given the following prizes:

• 1 UFO (Unidentified Fruit Object)
