How to Get Axolotls in The Sims 4
EA loves to add little creatures to the game and with the sims 4 axolotls collection you can have adorable little creatures!
This collection comes with The Sims 4: Lovestruck and can be found in habitats and bred too!
How to Get Axolotls in The Sims 4
There are a few ways you are able to get these adorable little creatures. You can find them inside of their habitats, breed them with each other in hopes of making new types or even meet up with the wealthy weirdo for some nice gifts.
Finding them in Habitats
Finding these axolotls is much like finding frogs, you need to find their habitat and look for them. You’ll find the axolotl locations near the fishing spots from Ciudad Enamorada! You’ll click on these and choose look for axolotls.

After you use this interaction the habitat will disappear, don’t worry, it comes back the next day so you can find one per day, per habitat.

Breeding Axolotls
Axolotls work a lot like frogs because you can breed them! Once you have two axolotls in your sim’s inventory you can click on one and choose breed axolotl with and a menu will open. In this menu you’ll choose the second axolotl that you’ll breed it with.

When you breed two of them you’ll either get one of the two types who were bred together, or a completely different type of axolotl. This is a great way to get the collection done quicker so you don’t have to wait for habitats to come back everyday.
Unlike with frog breeding I find that axolotl breeding is a lot more random. For example, breeding a green one with an albino one had ten different results for me and my sim. I wasn’t able to figure out a pattern to any of it!
Wealthy Weirdo Meet-Up
One weird way you can get these is by going to a wealthy weirdo meet-up. You may get a phone call from a random sim that starts with “I’m wealth. Very wealthy.” and if you click Hmm…perhaps your sim can meet up with them.

When you accept their invitation your sim will get a +3 playful moodlet called Meeting a Wealthy Weirdo that lasts 24 hours. You need to meet them before it runs out! You’ll need to meet them at the Beso RĂ¡pido Motel in Vista Hermosa which is located right across from the Casita Del Amor residential lot.

The hotel isn’t a lot you can visit, it’s a rabbit hole lot. You’ll click on it and choose meet wealthy weirdo and your sim will go into a rabbit hole.

When they leave you’ll get a +3 playful moodlet called Weird Meeting as well as a notification saying that the wealthy weirdo has given you some gifts.

The wealthy weirdo gives a lot of gifts and all of them were collectible items. My sim was given:
- 2 Albino Axolotls
- Green Axolotl
- Cell Block Microscope Print
- 3 Different Crystals
- Goobleck Element
- Pre-Pre-Pre Sim Head Fossil
- Yorier Voidcritter Card
Releasing Axolotls
An interesting thing about the sims 4 axolotls is that you are not able to delete or sell them. To get rid of these from your sim’s inventory you actually need to return them to their habitat. You’ll see this item cannot be sold or deleted in their description and you’ll see that the Sell option is greyed out.

There are two ways you can release them, you can click on an axolotl habitat and choose release axolotl to habitat and a menu will open and you can choose who to release.

Your second option is to click on the axolotl in your sim’s inventory and choose to release them. Either way you’ll get a notification that says “The Axolotl has been released outside to its native habitat! THe axolotls thank you for your kindness!”

If you have The Sims 4: Get Famous you’ll actually get an increase to your sim’s reputation every time you release an axolotl!
Types of Sims 4 Axolotls
There are fifteen total axolotls to collect through finding or breeding. Each of them have a rarity attached to them between either common, uncommon or rare.
Common Axolotls

Copper Axolotl
- “An axolotl with copper and brown coloured body.”

Gold Axolotl
- “Golden iridescence and light coloured speckles give it a beautiful hue.”

Green Axolotl
- “A natural green colour helps it blend in to the weeds and take bed.”

Lavender Axolotl
- “A lovely shade of purple with Dalmatian-like spots.”

Pink Axolotl
- “A light coloured morph of the typical axolotl colours, also known as leucistic.”

Wild Copper
- “An axolotl with a range of coloured speckling that helps camouflage it.”
Uncommon Axolotls

Albino Axolotl
- “A white and translucent skin from the absence of melanin gives it a ghostly cute appearance.”

Blue Axolotl
- “An atypical colour for axolotls, its azure hue reflects the skies above the lakes they reside in.”

Gold Firefly Axolotl
- “A result of grafting embryos together, this ‘firefly’ type has a golden body and copper-brown tail. Other axolotls probably think it is lazy at washing and never makes it to the tail.”

Pink Chimera Axolotl
- “This split “chimera” look of two colours happens when two eggs merge naturally. Almost like a chocolate and vanilla ice cream coming together for a tasty swirl cone. Don’t lick this though…”

Pink Firefly Axolotl
- “This “firefly” axolotl is the result of joining embryos, creating a different coloured body and tail. Do you think it forgets and scares itself when it sees its own tail?”
Rare Axolotls

Black Melanoid Axolotl
- “This axolotl has one of the darkest complexions found and has little to no iridescent coloration.”

Blue Fluorescent Axolotl
- “This bold and blue axolotl is the result of fluorescent proteins introduced to their genome in a lab. Other axolotls use it as a reading light.”

Gold Fluorescent Axolotl
- “This glowing axolotl is the result of humans adding fluorescent proteins to the genome. Between this and the golden skin it has taken ‘glow up’ to new heights!”

Green Chimera Axolotl
- “No, it isn’t half-done applying make-up. This natural wonder results from two developing eggs fusing.”
Reward for Completing the Collection
When you finally get the last of the sims 4 axolotls you’ll get a notification that says “Axolotl collection complete! Time to relaxalotl!”

In the coming days you’ll also get a plaque in the mail called Axolotl All-Star Award. This reward’s description reads “Congratulations on reaching an extraordinary milestone! The Axolotl All-Star Award is present to those who have collected every variant of axolotls. This plaque honors your exceptional passion and perseverance.”
